Glacier Bay Boat ???
Coming back from lunch, thinking to myself, "Self, should I winterize the boat now or take it out for one more run to T-Bay" when I darn near ran into the car in front ... there it was ... a brand new Glacier Bay Cat, full Cutty, Hardtop with Alaskan Cab wraparound glass, twin 200hp Honda's on the back, going down I-5 on the back of a semi-hauler ... either the guy who won Megabucks already made his first purchase or someone has been an awful good boy this year and Santa's coming a bit early ... Any I-fisher's out there know of someone with this new aquisitions ???

Re: Glacier Bay Boat ???
A buddy of mine already has that exact rig down in Bandon. Nice rig. I have yet to fish on it, but I have oggled it plenty. It's freaking HUGE on the trailer. Beautiful boat.

Re: Glacier Bay Boat ???
That WILL be my next boat...probably with twin 150 4 strokes, though...200s seem almost overkill...these are semi-planing boats and as such have almost no hull "slap" coming off the top of a wave...they are incredible stable at drift as there are basically two sponsons "hulls" instead of one...no rolling at rest. They cruise great at 25 knots and are very fuel efficient. The one you saw was probably a 2690 coastal runner. I absolutely think this is the best boat for our style of offshore fishing.
Here is a world record that the owner of Glacier Bay set...
GLACIER BAY AND HONDA SET WORLD RECORD TO MIDWAY ISLAND
1,328 MILES
Glacier Bay catamarans and Honda outboards, together, have just set another offshore world record. This time, they completed a record-breaking run of 1,328 miles to Midway Island in the Pacific.
The trek was made by two Honda-powered, Glacier Bay 26' trailerable sportfishing catamarans. The boats ran unassisted from Honolulu to Midway in seas as high as 10' and winds up to 30 mph. The trip was a dream of Glacier Bay founder Larry Graf, to explore and fish the six extremely remote islands and atolls northwest of the main Hawaiian Islands. All are part of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife preserve.

Re: Glacier Bay Boat ???
Yeppers! Nothing like a cat for stability and comfort. I looked at the Glacier Bay
boats before I decided to buy from a local builder ... (MaxWeld MaxCat)
Needless to say, I am *very* pleased with the ride and the fishability. Great fuel
economy and faster than a mono-hull for the same power ...

Re: Glacier Bay Boat ???
I actually have fished on the "Midway Challenge" (the boat that went to Midway). I have spent sometime on Midway Island and the boat is still in use today.
I think the boat runs well, but did not think it was that "fishy". It does not have good rod storage, fairly poor fish boxes and the cabin takes up to much fishing room (IMHO). In additon, the deck was the most slippery floor I have been on, but this could be fixed with some epoxy/grit mix.
The boat runs well and can handle good seas (been out in some good squals chasing tuna in it.

Re: Glacier Bay Boat ???
I read that story about those boats to Midway. They were met 1/2 way with fuel from a Bertram which ran out of gas on it's way back to to Hawaii. super boats but as noted not exactly set up for fishing.
Blast and Cast do you know if one can still go to midway now that they closed it down a bit??? I assume you went when the fishing ventures were happening a few years ago?? I missed the plane on the diving and fishing there.Mark

Re: Glacier Bay Boat ???
Yep-Ray and I hung around in the same group of fishing degenerates down in CA before he retired to Bandon and I got a job in Portland. Unfortunately we haven't gotten to fish together much, but I intend to fix that this year. Ray is a heck of a fisherman. His wife Eileen is better.
The internet sure shrinks the world, doesn't it.
I wasn't sure of his power on his monster cat. 130s eh? No wonder he always complains about how his four strokes have no hole shot.
Barcat is the boat name, but I am not sure that he has ever posted on iFish. He was briefly part of the PACNWSALT yahoo list before Jennie gave us our own board here.
