Default Can any one figure this out?

I went out with Space today to do a little sturg fishing. I had never been, so Space was going to show me how it was done. We went out of Rainier first thing in the morning until around 11:00am. No bites, BUT a steady and HEAVY stream of fish going upriver at 40'. What are these? Steelhead?
We later went up to Kelly Point, where we at least had some action, but didn't see the stream of fish on the screen like we saw at Rainier. Can anyone explain what this was?

We were below the Cowlitz. The images appeared large. I thought smelt were nearer to the surface. We saw another ifish boat out there, maybe he can offer his input. We were in the 18' Alumaweld seadory, with canvas top.

I've seen Smelt on the scope before. Like you said, they are not that far down and looks like dark cloud going by.

If your fish finder was in the mode that shows "fish" shapes on the screan it can/will show fish shapes for anything down there between you and the bottom, it could have been a thurmocline, change in water density, and quite possibly/more than likely the turbulance off your anchor rope.

The first thing suggested by the fish finder reps is to turn off the auto fish finder part of a unit and then fine tune it and look for arches, those are the true fish.
