Saturday Siletz
Fished three from Coyote Rock to first hole above Chinook Bend. No fish for the boat. We only fished 6:30 am. until 1:00 pm. Tried everthing in the box with no success. We saw a few fish caught, but all in all it was slow for most everyone.

I also went up on Saturday. We went 0/2.....Trying to get my 12 year old son his first salmon. He lost one on his rod...then lost one on mine.....He's learning though and sometimes it doesn't matter who's holding the rod.

Re: Saturday Siletz
I also fished Friday-Sunday. It was the slowest I've seen for clear water conditions . Saw maybe 10 fish caught all weekend and most of the fish were caught shallow and on anchor. We managed to hook one on the troll in 8ft of water go figure????
The weather was nice once the fog lifted each day, water temps around coyote rock were averaging 60f. Little warm for this time of year and as the weekend progressed less and less fish marked! Need to pray to the rain gods which it looks like it will do next weekend!
Thats my report hope you enjoy 1

Re: Saturday Siletz
Hit one fish anchored up at first light as well as one trolling just before low tide. Tried bobber and eggs for a bit also with no luck. Marked a ton of fish Saturday, just too warm for a real good bite I guess.

Re: Saturday Siletz
I have had the least luck while marking the most fish on this river. Seems like an awefully fickle piece of water.

Re: Saturday Siletz
it wouldnt be fickle water if everyone would pull there anchors and start working it. I quit fishing it because it has become an anchor and kwiky thing.

Re: Saturday Siletz
I know what you mean with the anchor thing, I have actually done pretty good trolling in tidewater but I know I could have done better if I wasnt so limited on the amount of area I could troll .

Re: Saturday Siletz
We bobber fished in the early morning fog, trolled until the afternoon, and finally hooked up later in the day on the incoming tide while anchored with a wrapped F15. The Siletz was pretty crowded and slow for most.

Nice chrome fish, Roger!
The Siletz has been good for me in the past trolling shrimp spinners.

Wooooaaaa unfriendly types????  I'd have to say that this river being as small and crowded as it might get has some of the friendliest people I have ever met! Every morning people came up to me at the dock, water, where ever and say hello, good morning etc! Like to see someone say that on the Columbia, Tillamook, anywhere. I hope you were regarding to the fish being unfriendly types! They do get real mean when they are biting! I had no problem trolling around from the bridge up to windy bend all weekend, even though alot were anchored. Its just a little more work is all but its not as bad as I've seen when some years back the "big boyz" in their sleds would hogline above coyote rock and make it so you couldn't troll by them. Those days are gone for good I hope! Not trying to pick on ya, but I take offence when someone badmouths the little jem of a river that was not as well known for years! Just like everywhere else, the crowds seem to follow the fish, and our secret little spots don't exist anymore so we all need to make the best of it! By the way...we've been anchoring up down here for years!!! just my .02
Oh yea,
My boat is 18ft and fiberglass which makes it that much more fun to troll!!

Re: Saturday Siletz
I agree, pull the anchors and fish! I might start fishing the Siletz again if the hog lines went away, lots of nice fish to be had.

Re: Saturday Siletz
Patrick 1114,
I'll second that, lots of nice people and they are willing to share info as well. This is my favorite river on the coast. Even when I don't catch fish, it's still one of the best boat rides a person can have.
By the way, I don't see a problem with people on anchor. Most still leave plenty of room to get around. Plus this is a very productive way of catching fish. I do a lot of trolling, but it's nice to be able to get a break and keep fishing while I eat lunch. If you don't like trolling through the hoglines, then fish a different stretch of river, there is a lot of open water and good holes, the people on anchor are not in every one.
Good luck!
Scott

Re: Saturday Siletz
I fished it twice this year and found the people to be mostly friendly. I think this holds true in most places with a few exceptions like at the boat ramp on the Nestucca. However, we did have an unpleasant experience on the river last Saturday.
We were trolling up the North side of the river (left side as you go upstream) early in the morning. It was plenty light and you could see a long way up river. Also, it was not particularly crowded. There was lots of room. We were only about 30 feet from shore and barely moving against the outgoing tide and river current. We see a boat 3-400 yards upstream in the center of the river floating down sideways. He was moving pretty fast as he was moving with the current. I thought he would straighten out and thought litttle of it. Instead, he maintained his bearing which put him on a collision course for us. I believe the rules of the road require captains to vear right when approaching head on. However, we were not approaching head on. We were holding our ground and route. This guy, in my opinion had no right to cross our bow and force me to change course. Am I wrong? We littereally passed within inches of eachother. It could have turned out very badly. He swore at me accusing me of not yielding. Again, was I in the wrong?

I've been anchoring up. But saw alot of people hooking up trolling spinners. Maybe that should be a clue on what I should do.
