Default Blue Lake bassin\'

Anyone know if there's any good bass in Blue lake out off of I-84? I was there this past weekend and saw some action in the lilly pads on the west end of the lake, plus saw some small LM swimming along shore.
Is the lake fished much? There are a lot of houses on it, plus the park. Just wondering what the word is on it.

Umm... I know there are bass in that lake but have never fished there personally. I would highly reccommend that you not eat any fish that are caught from there! That lake has been shut down to swimming several times over the last few years due to comtamination. I'm not dogging the lake, its still a great place to have fun. Just don't eat the fish.

Good luck! C&R

Like Tommyboy I'd stay away from eating anything from Blue Lake. People have gotten sick just from swimming in the water. ODFW probably has a water quality report on their Web site.

How 'bout Benson Lake off I-84? I know it has trout, but I wonder if there are any bass?

pdxhawk, I believe I have heard of some very large bass that have been caught in blue lake(8lbs+). If you plan on fishing from a boat check the current lake regulations because I think they have both size and time of year restrictions on boats unless you live on the lake.
If you do end up fishing Blue lake please report back because I would love to know of other good bass lakes close in to portland.

Good luck & tight lines

There used to be a small bass tackle shop in Gresham that had some pictures of some very nice largemouths that they had caught out of Blue lake, fishing from the bank. I have tried it in the Spring a couple of times but with no luck. Maybe the fall would be better.

It's been a few years, but my personal best largemouth came out of Blue Lake. It was a 6lb. 5oz. fish caught on a blue and white spinnerbait. I was fishing from the dock.
I was out there about 2 weeks ago, for the first time in along time, and discovered that bass are still there; but, the only ones I got were about 8 inches.

I was out to Blue Lake again this afternoon for a few hours and caught 3 largemouth about 10 inches (Hey! That's bigger than the last time. I'm making progress.) I also saw four other largemouth caught about the same size.
When I was up in the parking lot, I saw Festus checking parking permits and such and he told me that he has seen 8 and 9 pounders come out of there. I can't personally testify to that; but, I don't doubt it.

I suppose it would be hard to dispute that such large fish have come out of that lake, but I have fished it many times and the best Ive done is about 3 lbs.
