This is my last cast...
How many times have you said those words to yourself? This morning, I took a detour on the way to work to make a few casts in one of my favorite streams and after fighting birdsnests on my not-so-favorite reel (I put the wrong outfit in the truck) for about 30 minutes, I told myself you have a meeting in 30 minutes, so "This is my last cast." About 10 feet from the bank, "fish on" and after a short but exciting battle, a chrome fin-clipped coho hen hit the bank flopping on the rocks like only a coho who has been landed a bit early can. Where was my wife at that point? She has heard me utter those famous and not so often followed words many times and now believes there is really no such thing as "This is my last cast." Well, the eggs are curing and we had grilled coho with salmon seasoning and brown sugar for dinner, so I'm sure glad I took that cast.

Yep, sometimes that last cast is the only one that matters.

Re: This is my last cast...
I always catch my fish on "the next cast". Rarely is it the "last cast".
Way to go!

Re: This is my last cast...
Know what you all mean specially when drift fishing. Have you ever casted one out that went exactly where you wanted it, the water, lighting, angle of decent, everything was perfect and still "nothing" hits it. You almost say to yourself, "now that was strange, I just knew I would get a bite on that one".

Re: This is my last cast...
I have hooked a lot of fish on my last five casts. Its now become a thing i have to do when i go. I take five more casts and then a few extra for good luck. Many times it has resulted in a fish. Either that or being a few hours late to what ever else i was suppost to do.

Re: This is my last cast...
Great story! How many "just one more cast" times are there in life? Hopefully quite a few more. Congratulations!

Buck,
Nice work on the Coho! I also agree that there is no such thing as "the last cast".

Re: This is my last cast...
You know what's odd? Every time I limit out, the second fish comes on the last cast. EVERY TIME!!!

Re: This is my last cast...
Today I said "This is my last shrimp I'm putting on" and actually stuck to it. That hearty soul lasted about 5 casts. I still had shrimp left but I was sticking to my guns.
So what did I do?
Started throwing spinners
