Just to start, I have to say that I'm JONESING bad for steelhead! We're icebound here in E Idaho--havent been since Dec. 6. 1st story-this fall brother in law hooked a small nate then lost it reeled up slack then bam --must have been thew same fish? 2nd story--Started fly fishing at 8--had to learn the level wind to start steelin 4 years ago. I didnt know that steelhead could be caught on a flyrod. This fall I started fly fishing for them and have been blessed so far--landed 3 in Nov. First fish landed on a bead sucking leach--didnt realize bead was on until I had the leach tied on--first cast -fish on! 3rd story---wife and I fished the Kasilof this Aug for silvers. Guide had diver and eggs on wifes rod and Kwikfish on mine. She hooked a fish that immediately went berserk and before we could react went around my kwikfish 2 or 3 times. The loops wound up my line to the tip of my rod. To avoid losing her fish, I grabbed my line and the guide cut it to save the kwikfish. She fought the silver closer, while I held the line out of her way. Then Bam--fish on my line! What a helpless feeling. She landed her fish, and No, I wasnt able to hand line mine to the boat--he came unbuttoned. But we did get the Kwiky back.
