Default Metolius opener on LBC this Saturday! Anyone going?

The Metolius arm of Lake Billy Chinook will open for the season this Saturday. I had made plans since last fall that (Hell or high water) I will be there on March 1st.
But with the weather forecast for 21 degrees, snow and light winds I am second guessing. What about the rest of you. If I promise to put off the trip until it gets warmer, can I count on the rest of you to not disturb MY Bull Trouts until then?

I'll be there... Just put on a new Garmin 500c last night in the freezing rain and can't wait to see how it works. Lunar calendar says Saturday should be a great day, hopefully the snow and wind keep to a minimum.

Post your finding on how your new Garmin works, been researching a lot of depth/fishfinders. Would like your thoughts on that one for sure, My garmin tends to lock on to my downrigger balls if they are shallow and lose the bottom reading, ok some lakes but really bad at Wickiup

I've had the same issue at times with my Lowrance. I've figured out that I need to change my downrigger weights to prevent it from happening. I run 2 lb. balls at Wickiup, 6 lb. for deeper water, and then 10 lb. pancakes for the deep water macks and bulls.

Was hoping to make it out. Took the boat into a marine place very near LBC 3 weeks ago for a quick oil change and gear lube on both motors. Was told at the time a week to 10 days. Called yesterday and still out a week to 10 days Had I known I would have made other arrangements. The only positive thing is the weather does look kinda rough this weekend

Make sure you call Don the owner and let him know. This has been happening there a lot.

Nope y'all should definitely sit it out for about a week. Weather looks really bad, fish probably aren't even there yet and.......... oh yeah my reservation isn't until the 8th! Leave a few for me to enjoy. Mine are getting C&R just need a lil action if you know what I mean.

Really glad this place isn't too far away. Fun fishery.

Cold doesn't usually stop us that is what Cartharts and the Buddy heater were made for. Snow is my issue. The road down to the Three Rivers Marina is nasty, slippery as snot and dangerous when icy or snow covered. There is something about towing the boat from the Metolius to the Crooked to launch to then turn around and motor back to the Metolius. Seems inherently and fundamentally wrong. Then again. Been there and done that. We may see you guys out there. Going to get our Warm Springs permits this afternoon to keep our weekend options open even though I haven't seen a tribal officer on LBC for the last 4 years.

Sounds good. We'll keep our eyes out for you. (We will be on channel 7) Will be at LBC Sat and Crescent Sun. Stopped in at Cent Wise this afternoon and they still haven't seen the Indian Permits. That always drives us nuts...

I'll take snow if you can keep the freezing rain away!

"Permit Purchasing is Currently Closed" per the Warm Springs website. So what happens if you don't have a permit on you all though you tried to purchase it? Print out a screen shot and give it to the officer that checks you (as you know they'll be out there tomorrow).....

Be interesting to hear.

Big R has permits. There has to be a better system of getting these permits, It's the same deal every year.

Julie at Lake Chinook Village Store has permits. Now the snow is messing with my Saturday. As far as Warm Springs Game officers. I was told there are none. The budget cuts eliminated all Tribal Game officers.

I found them at the culver market. It was nice to see a good population of kokanee. Two limits in less than 30 minutes jigging. No corn used. All fish 12 inches.

NICE... They must have been active. We even picked up a 13" kokanee on a bull trout plug! Off the lake at noon with 5 bulls to the net. Nothing really large, biggest was 26".

Rippin, you're an inspiration. I'd love to get into some kokes without having to fool with a downrigger. Looks like jigging will do it!
Good for you for getting out on the lake. Better get my tribal permit. Wish it would warm up!

Um, I was thinking, y'know, 65-70 maybe? T-shirt weather?
Looks like 39 degrees didn't have any effect on the hot bite for you , BL!

Hope you guys didn't sore mouth all the bulls for me. I couldn't make it down for the M arm opener but I think Wednesday might be a go. Really looking forward to being back on LBC, it's a unique place for sure. Last year was my first and I'm definitely buying the annual permit this year. Caught some kokes in late December that were 12 to 13", hopefully they will be 15.99" before they spawn.

One question, can you get to the Perry South launch when the campground is closed or do they put a chain or gate up across the entrance road? I was there in late October but never early Spring.

When I went a few weeks ago the sign on top of the hill said Perry was open... not sure on the status though.

Perry South

For what its worth a couple years ago the wife & I almost stepped on a Rattle snake !!

Love that campground anyway & it never seems busy, often even deserted ?

Good fishing !!

We will be out soon.

FYI - Looks like they enabled purchasing a zone 4 permit online today however be warned, I went to purchase a permit and after you put your cc info in, there is a web page error and you don't have the option of printing the permit. Tried again with the same error. Called my bank and they charged me twice. I called the number on their permit website and course no one is available. A bit disturbing so probably better to buy permit in person at the moment.

Maybe they are trying to make up for a couple years ago. I bought my permit online, printed it off and a couple weeks later I got a letter (or maybe an e-mail.... or a voice mail) saying that the system didn't charge me for the permit so could I pay again. I checked and they were right, I was not charged for the permit that was in my boat. Didn't even buy a permit last year, for the previous couple the kokes were not bigger in the Metolius arm and I was catching plenty of bulls in the confluence so it was not worth it.
