...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
Wow! Ifish scores the big time!
We really have a line up this year, for the Spring Chinook Awards! Better than ever!
Let's go!
Click here to check it out!
Lamiglas rods, and Trask River Tackle TH rods, have all gone out of their way to make this the most fun Springer Contest ever!
I think it's a hoot that this year we have the SHORTEST springer award, brought to you by BOE!
I wonder if he can win his own rod?
It'll be fun. Remember to keep track, and get those fish pictures with the ifish hats taken and registered at the stores listed!!!
Have fun!
Jen

That works great if you are anywhere near Portland or the Wilson river. Those of us who live and fish in the Canyon are just our of luck if we don't drive a 3 hour round trip... How about trying to set up a check station in Salem next year.

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
If you can find one, and set them up, I will put them on the list. Actually, all I need is for sure verification, so if you go to any tackle store, get a business card or some verification from them, the time, date, all the pertinent info, it's a go... wherever you go!
Or, help me set some more stations up? Either way!

Maybe Sportmans on Lancaster. That wouldn't be too bad of a drive for you.

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
verification from the merchant should include, date, a check of the tag, fish measurements (length, girth, weight), a contact number and name for verification and they should punch a hole in the right gill plate, right?

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
What about the S.Oregonians that fish the umpqua and rogue??? We don't have a problem getting someone to verify the catch, but we can keep native fish...... Any ideas?

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
I don't understand. If you catch one before Feb 1st, why would it be a problem?
Anyhow, this contest was started when ifish was rather local. Now that it's bigger, I don't know... As long as the runs are about the same time, it shouldn't be a problem.
Just make sure you do all of the above, at some legal tackle shop, that Pete mentioned, and is on the rules, and I will consider it, if it looks good to go!

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
I think I have been ripped on, ...hey Jen just for you ---->
Lami has first fish, TH has longest, whats left?? I could take shortest or last And the last springer tagged doesnt make a pretty picture probably not even good table fare let alone a rod winner. (And besides I didnt want Birdhunter to win. ) So I guess shortest seemed to be my best choice, ..and fitting.
There seems to be a couple front runner possibilities for shortest fish, Fishbait, Catch and Eat, Ramstrong, Stew, Gizmo, .......
Thanks for letting me play

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
If it's a legal native, we'll need verification that it was tagged on legal river, photocopy of your tag, etc... and the rest of the rules, apply, gill plate punch, etc.

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
..and remember, Jack Salmon do not count, even for the shortest, so don't be killing any smolts!
1) You must be wearing an Ifish hat in your fish picture that will be sent in to www.ifish.net. (You should probably order a hat before it starts!!) Hats are available online at www.ifish.net, if you click right here. If you can't afford to buy a hat, fish with an ifisher who has one, or borrow one from an ifisher on the water! Most places that take pictures, and verify your catch will have a hat on hand. We do, however, appreciate your support, by purchasing ifish hats.
2) Jack Salmon do not count. It must be a fin clipped, adult fish over 24 inches!
3) You must take a picture, or have the check in point take one, and send it to www.ifish.net for posting. You may post it using the picture upload feature in the middle top of ifish's Bulletin Board pages. You may also take a picture, and have someone else scan it and e mail it in.
4) This contest is for ifish members only. You must be an active ifish member. You must have registered on the www.ifish.net board before February 1st, 2004, and have at least 10 posts to enter the contest. It's free!
5) The fish must be tagged on your harvest card, and you must provide a copy of your license when you pick up your prize.
6) Fish must be verified by the check in point for date and time, or length and girth.
Please have merchant punch hole in right gill plate.
7) Longest and shortest spring Chinook will be awarded June 30th. (Measured from nose to tail, tip to tip, and then girth, in case we have a tie for longest length). The longest and shortest Spring chinook must be entered, and posted on the ifish board by 11:59 PM June 29th. Thread to post to is here.
8) First spring Chinook caught will be awarded March 10th.
(This should give people enough time to submit it to www.ifish.net.)
9) You must have the check point business person write you a certificate.
This must include the checker's name, company and phone number.
Your name, size and length of fish, and most importantly, the time and date caught.
This can be on any paper, as long as it is verified when I call them!

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
I would much prefer you go to a sponsor of the contest. If you cannot, any local TACKLE shop will suffice, if in a pinch. You will have to add an explanation of why you can not make it to a sponsored shop. *Valid excuses are travel time, etc.

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
Jennie, the Sportsman Show is only a week away and everyone can buy them there, i f you are going to be there again.
Bait of Eggs, I thought your list was a little presumptious as those listed don't always catch springers. Shouldn't that be a requirement to qualify for shortest?
Thanks Jennie for making all this possible. I promise that I would drive to Tillamook to register and photo if I caught one that I thought would be a winner. However Oregon City is a lot closer to Portland and Salem. Neither is a three hour trip.

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
February 4th, 2004 - I checked my first springer in at Delta Park Fishermans Marine,
then ran over to the sportsmans show to buy a Ifish hat for the picture. I think its
the first Ifish springer! Caught on a willamette special spin-n-glo and home cured
prawn tail. I was told it wasnt the only one caught today. Now team Carrot Milk can
quit dragging herring around sand island looking for the first fish honors and go back
to sturgon for a while.
12 lbs - 33 inch length - 17" girth - adipose fin clipped - going on the BBQ in a few minutes. Yummmm!

OK, I'm the auditor, the compliance guy ... I'm not trying to be critical, just looking for compliance with the contest rules ... we still need to see a proper tag and we need to know that the check in point punched the right gill plate.

Way to go Ug. Y You just made it alot harder for me to stick to my "gonna start fishing for springers March 5th" plan. You're a hall of famer for sure

Re: ...and it's the Spring Chinook Awards, 2004!!
Way to go, Brad!!!
Now, if no one else brings one in dated earlier than that, I will award you King Ifisher with the First Springer!
..and the best pic, and the best pic and... what other prizes will you take?
Anyhow, if no other contest entries are in by March 10th, then congrats to you!!!!
Remember, there may be someone out there trying to pull a fast one at the last minute.
The rules state:
8) First spring Chinook caught will be awarded March 10th.
(This should give people enough time to submit it to www.ifish.net.)
So far, you are the only entry! WOW!!!
Don't give up, folks, there is still the shortest, and the longest!!!
Jen

Way to go Big Shad Brad Bobby, hearing Brads final words was the funniest thing I ever heard. I laughed so hard.

One fat cut. But I don't see any red on the gills. It really is salmon!
Nice run.
