Paint peeling off jigs
I just started using jigs they are not first cast jigs but the paint is starting to peel on the head of the jig. Is there a touch up paint I can buy if so where at?

You're fishing too close to the bottom.

Re: Paint peeling off jigs
FFM, don't worry, it happens. You can buy a different kind of paint, but it's somewhat different then the powder coat that's already on the jig. It's just called Lure & Jig Finish, it's kind of like a vinyl paint. I used to use it, but I don't really like it. I find when the jig head is "splotched" with paint, it still works fine, but I am a firm believe head coloration does indeed help the effectivness of the jig.
Sometimes you can't help knocking it off, you don't know where the bottom is, one tick and some paint is gone. Don't worry about it all that much, your jig should still catch fish.

Cabela's has some. But the fish don't care. DJ is right though, if you are losing paint, that jig is at least 18 inches too deep.

Re: Paint peeling off jigs
I'm with UG, I doubt the color of the jig-head is what gets the fish to hit it.

Re: Paint peeling off jigs
I know it's inevitable that you'll scrape bottom and the paint will chip off. Although I have not done it, but I was wondering if the touchup paint for cars would be more durable. And I don't know how well the paint will adhere to the leadhead, so perhaps a primer paint maybe required. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Paint peeling off jigs
Car paint might smell to much it has a strong smell to it when its fresh.(it will chip as well if you dont use a catalyst and that stuff stinks real bad) I have never had a problem with paint missing from a jig head and not catching fish, in fact some of my best producers are well used and beat up.

Re: Paint peeling off jigs
You can buy powder coat at sportsmans wharehouse, very simple to use and easyer and cleaner than paint.

Re: Paint peeling off jigs
Jim Bradbury's personal jigs do not have paint on them . He said that the only reason that he paints them is for appearance to the consumer. He told me that it doesnt make a difference as the fish are keying in on the feathers.

Re: Paint peeling off jigs
Maybe nail polish. pretty durable and thick so it would go on nice. I agree though, the fish don't seem to mind the chipped paint.
