Default Sturgeon at 165\' deep?

I recently found a hole on the columbia that is 165' deep and near a spot that I have caught sturgeon in the past. Has anyone ever fished for sturgeon in such deep water? I have caught them in 120' before.

Have a hole that is 178' deep   .Lots of keepers when the wind lets you fish.

Yes, deep holes produce fish. Just be careful you bring them up carefully. They don't have closed air bladders but they still have to be able to "burp" to keep the air bladder from bursting or prolapsing. If they float belly up at all you will have hold them in the water with the head up and tail down by the mouth (no hands under the opercle). Extending the mouth helps with the burping. In a real severe case, you can massage the belly to help work the air out.

To get a real nice big burp you have to put them up on your sholder and pat them firmly on the back. A nice root beer soda gives them a nice big burp also

Welcome to the board Bat Ray.

I used to fish a hole near Lake Osweego on the Willamette that was 140' deep. I don't see the point in fishing water that deep for gators any more. By the time you put enough weight on to keep on the bottom, and let out and reel in a few shakers, your arms are tired and its time to go home! No thank you, I'll stick to 45'-90'.
