Default Tuna Hand Line Length

Do any of you Salty Tuna Dogs know the mininum diference in length of the hand lines behind the boat, we are going to be using six lines about 2ft apart. How many feet behind should the short lines be. I assume the short lines in the center, working out to the long lines on the outside edge is the best way to go. We are kinda new to the tuna rodeo.

Default Re: Tuna Hand Line Length

I have always liked shorter lines for the diver boards(Youzuri K boards) off the port and starboard handlines, (15' to 25' including the bungie). I just finished making up some new hand lines. Here is my setup.I use regular truck tie down bungie cords, minus the hooks that are 21" in length. Two longs 100' each, 2-75', 2-50'. I have some old ones that are 15'& 65' 80'. This length is the total length of the tuna chord (blue line, 200 lb) including bungie. I make up all my tuna clones using 200 pd mono. They are all made at 10'. I do mine a little different than others. I use Jinkai crimps on the 200pd mono, around a grommet and ring. Each 10' has its own Zuker broom (just what I use mostly)with a Mustad 78925 #22 SS barbless hook. I forgot to mention that I use a Aussie swivel with corkscrew on the ends of all my handlines. That allows me to change out the Zukers when another color is being hit more. As to the ring and grommets used. It is a little more work but I like the compactness of the leader coils and the ability to remove the Mustad dbl hook for storage. On my new handlines I added "WHIP-IT" rope end protection material to the knots on the Aussie swivel end. Just adds a bit of added protection.I should mention that the length of the handlines shown above is close. After making the knots, adding bungie and loops it cuts down on the length some of the blue line tuna chord. All leaders in 200 lb mono are kept at 10'. Just my preference that has worked well for me.
