Default Help w/ Mouth of John Day Please!

Going camping up there for the first time... "Any" advice on how and where to fish it would be appreciated.I'm not particular about species, just want to get my little girl into some fish. Thanks!

Billy,

You can probably get her on to some smallmouth bass the easiest. Plastic grubs or worms, maybe a topwater in the morning or evening or a crankbait. If she can cast this probably works ok. If she cant cast then carolina rig a small rubber worm or grub. Cast it out and let her hold onto the rod. Cast onto current seams off of a point or other current break. If she just drags the carolina rigged worm around while you fish with whatever you want to try she will have a pretty good chance of finding a biter. You can stay in the John Day or go into the Columbia.

BT, catfish good Q. if you are in a boat i would run up to the narrows. from the mouth of the river it is about a 10min run. you will know what i am talking about if you go,the river ends up there with some nice water for big cats. all the normal ways to catch them will work but, tiger prawns are my fav.

on your way up you will find the best camp ground, about 1.5 miles up with lots of great water to fish.

Billy,
I'll be there with my family Tues-Thurs. Say hi if you see me. I'll be camping at the mouth and will be in a white Boice Jet.
