Default A great weeks worth of experiences

It all started Monday. Deeopslayer, and myself, along with our friend Kelly started toward the Tuna! grounds. The swell was big but smooth so I couldn't get much over 14 kts headway. The report weas Tuna! were 60 miles out. At about 8 miles we turned and headed for salmon. S-l-o-w is what the fishing was. Got a call from Wak'm and went down to the pile. No fish. El Shadai called us inside to a baitball he was working. Got a couple small chinooks. Hawg Caller got on the radio and reported an inside bite. We got there just as it died but we got one silver. Went home as I was going for Tuna! in the A.M.
Kelly, his brother Dewayne, and myself hit Depoe to a flat ocean and a beautiful day. When we got to the 61 spot Dan (Wak'm& Stk'm)called that he was getting fish on all lines! Headed toward him (he was about 30 minutes ahead of us oversleepers). About 3 miles from his location we saw jumpers and droped in...fish on! The bite slowed down and Dan continued outside of TunaTown. We stayed in between TT and the 61 spot. Steadily picking up fish. Stayed in constant communication with Dan, Ken (on the Irish) and several other boats. Ended when the boxes were full. Never got very far from the original drop in spot. The boat was low in the water and hard to get on plane! 35 Tuna!, 400 lbs of ice and 3 crew were a load! The return water was fantastic...flat calm and greasy. WOT all the way in. Met a lot of great folks at the cleaning station, including Captain Dennis (of Tilamook baits fame!) Gave away several albacore and some loins. Still had a ton!
Got up Wednesday with pain in all parts and a very tired crew. Decided that salmon fishing was a better idea. Trolled out of Newport and got a slow limit of fish. Hawg Caller once again called us into the bite. He was very gracious and helpful He also knows what he is doing! We watched him land fish after fish, as we got a couple! Thanks, your help reminds me of what fishing is suppose to be like. As a charter (Siamez) it is easy to ignore the rest of the fleet. You are proactive in sharing and very user friendly! It made my day  Thanks!
Thursday, to the Tuna! grounds again! Started out on a beautiful ocean. Dan was already on his way and several others came as well. Seasquid, XTAsea (Marty), ATC, and others. As we got outside, the water started to rough up a little. Started to fish in the same area we left on Tuesday. Slow. Got a brief bite going but then it slowed. Mike (ATC) on the Blitz said an upwelling was occuribing outside of tunatown. By the time we got to TT, it was pretty snotty. Decided I didn't want to run any further to get home so turned toward home and started to troll again...Fish on! The bite was on. Dan, Mike, and I had fish working pretty steady until I was done. Had 4 people aboard (had added my regular fishing partner Steve) so had to stop sooner, plus the ocean was definately not as nice  28 fish that later turned out to be 27??? As we headed towards the barn at 12 kts, Dan and Mike were still high lining the fish in. The seas were rough enough that I couldn't stay on plane and the ride was VERY wet. Inside around 20 miles out, it got better and by the time we got inside 10 miles it was WOT time and a good ride.
One of the best 4 days of fishin I have ever had: My crew were the best, they took care of me as I was having some joint problems and couldn't do as much as I would like. The other Ifisher were accomadating and friendly, as expected, and made the trips worthwhile. El Shadai, Hawg Caller, Wak'm, ATC, Ken, Seasquid, Salmonator, Marty, Sturgn, and a host of others really added to the pleasure of my days out. Thanks!!!!! This is an amazing group...it has been said so often but this week really brought it home!
I hope the weekend boys do well and return safely. If the weather cooperates, it is back at it next Tuesday!
Dave

We ran into a lot of that "outside" wind a few weeks ago. From about 12 miles in it was glass, everything west was nasty. Nasty enough to turn me around.
Really weird weather...

Glad you had a good week!

WP...I was very thankful for the weather updates on the way in.If nothing more it was nice to give my last location.
I really turned to #$$% before I left. What sucked was my stern would be on one wave and pile driving my bow into the forward wave, They had to have been at 5 seconds.
That was one of the worst runs I have ever had as far as wave direction and steepness.

So wierd,,,nice everywhere else...
