Default Penn 209 reel

A friend of mine has a Penn 209 levelwind reel and said it's mine if I wanted it. The thing is that it is in a box but not put together. My question is, is there someplace that I could take it to put it back together cheap. Or are there instructions someone could give me to put it together myself? I enjoy working on things like that, but want to know if it is even worth doing.

Thanks,
ReelBigFish

If you want to try it yourself, here is a link to the exploded parts diagram.

Penn 209M

The other place to try would be Ollie Damons in SE Portland.

They go together easy. Olie Daimon will do it for you too.

Thanks for the help guys! The schematic looks great. I'm going to give it a shot this weekend. If I end up running in to problems, I'm gonna give Ollie's a call.

How good are these Penn 209 reels? Will it hold up well on my bar pole?

The drag is a small and the gear ratio a bit low but they work well. They are easy to maintain, a bit tricky with the level wind though.

reelbigfish,
just remember the cosmic rule of putting ANYTHING together. You'll have about 6% of the parts left over. I'm sure they won't be important anyway!

RBF,

I would like to echo what GBS said and ask why was it taken apart and are you sure you have all the parts?

I myself would take it in or send it to Reelmeister.

Penn Reels ar extremely easy to put together. I did one for an Ifisher on the tailgate of her truck working with a flashlight. The levelwind can be a bit tricky.
