Re: Favorite brand of fishfinder
I've had a Bottomline for 2 boats & 8 years. THe big screen is helpful, Fish I.D. with depth is good. GPS compadable. Speed thats accurate, & water temp all make for a goodfish finder.
They will replace or repair for life, for $150.00.

Re: Favorite brand of fishfinder
I have had Lowrance over the years and Think they are really fine sounders, The only down side the past few years is service. They don't have parts and offer a discounted price on a newer unit. If they were plug and play that would be fine. But they have not been for me.
I now have a Garmin on the Duckworth, and a Lowrance in the dash and Garmin on the bow of the Ranger.

Re: Favorite brand of fishfinder
Had a Humminbird on my last boat. Worked fine. Have a Lowrance on this boat, and it works fine too. Since the technology, and therefore, features are continually improving, I don't think you can go far wrong with any of the major brands, jmho.
Being a non-teckie, what I'm looking for with any marine electronics is ease of use, and reliability.... Good luck with it.

Re: Favorite brand of fishfinder
Between my dad and I, we've gone through Bottomline, Eagle, Lowrance, and Humminbird. Personally, I prefer the Eagle above all...it hasn't given me any problems. My dad, on the other hand, is a Bottomline guy. These can be "touchy" and "moody," so I think it all depends on ones preference.

I prefer Lowrance. Eagle is the same thing.
I sold Bottomline for several years and saw far too many problems. They (Bottomline) were good about service and repair but it was a pain sending stuff back constantly.

Re: Favorite brand of fishfinder
I have a Lowrance X15, it works OK, but when in the ocean last week I can't even see any fish(arches) or anything resembling a target on it. I can only guess where to run my baits. My recommendation is go to a place like Rogers that specialize in all finders and pick the one they recommend with the features you want. Good luck.

Re: Favorite brand of fishfinder
I have had a Lowrance X85 and now have Color Lowrance 330c w/GPS. Both are trouble free and solid finders. Color is the way to go - can read it clearly with it mounted on the dash while I'm running the kicker.
I hear Furuno are quite good and they are the finder of choice for hardcore Kokanee anglers - much wider sonar cone and more pixel to help sort the Kokes from other salmonoids. The also appear to be the finder of choice among commercial boats - so I hear. You get what you pay for in this life and Furuno's are no exception.
If you can afford it spring for color regardless of brand.
Good luck and good fishing.

Re: Favorite brand of fishfinder
Have had several brands. X-85 is a decent unit. Garmin 240 is a pretty good unit as well. Have a X-15 CT now that I'm still tring to figure out. I use them all on manual mode and never have a problem getting arches. I agree with charmon on the color. It's worth the extra if you can swing it.
The best finder I've ever had was my own eyes reading the water, birds, and experience.

Re: Favorite brand of fishfinder
I've had a Lowrance X-28 for about 10 years, and although it continues to function,
the screen has a bunch of small cracks, making it difficult to see, especially in bright light.
I bought an Eagle Fish-Easy because it was compatable with my existing transducers,
and shortly after the one year warranty expired, the screen started fogging up, although again,
it continues to function. Both of these units were mounted in exposed areas, but stored after each use
in their cases and inside.
I probably wouldn't buy another Lowrance/Eagle if I had a choice, but the boat I just bought has a
brand new Lowrance X126DF. I haven't even had it out except for the test ride, so I don't know how
well I'll like it yet, but it seems I'm fated to fish with Lowrance for a while longer.
