4th of July weekend salmon with Nalu.
I took my wife and little one and headed for Newport for the long weekend. Hooked up and fished with NALU on sat. and sunday mornings. Calm seas and hungry silvers where in store. Fish from NALU's beautiful boat, the Sea-J, a 24' grady white. SWEET BOAT!
his dad joined us and we limited without problem, even with all the wild fish thrown in. large dodger/hoochies off the riggers was the ticket. Sunday it was a little tougher, but we still boated a keeper with numerous wild fish safely released. Add a few bottom fish, and it was a great day also.
Thanks Mike for a terrific time. You are a top notch skipper, knowlegable fisherman, and a hoot to hang with.
Thanks for a great time. If any of you get a chance to fish with Nalu, you won't be dissapointed.
Tight lines,
PS,
Maybe Mike will add a pic of me with his dad holding up saturdays limit of silvers.

The weather report called for 4 foot wind waves and 5 foot swells. Was the report wrong?
It was supposed to be nasty out there today also.
Does anybody have any reports from today?

I'd say so, at least in the mornings. It was pretty flat. but we were in port by late morning both days. Never did seem to kick up very bad at all though.

Re: 4th of July weekend salmon with Nalu.
OK, gotta correct GBS on one thing that is close to my heart. My Grady was called a 25 footer when it was built, and is now considered a 27 foot boat. It has a LOA of 29 feet. NOT 24 feet!
Second, GBS had to get home early on Sunday so we only mangaed to boat one keeper in the first 11/2 hour, then ran in to bottom fish for awhile, then came back out and salmon fished for another 11/2 hours releasing a multitude of fish with extra fins. I 'm thinking we would have got all of our fish had we been given the time.
Anyway, it was fun hanging with Brad. Thought another Ifisher was going to call, but never heard a word, so it was just the 3 of us on Saturday. Brad had one fish that came in HOT, zipping all around the boat. Right now we're running about a 50% ratio on clipped versus govt. fish. Still managing our limits on all full day trips so far.
Thanks for fishing with me Brad! Look forward to doing it again. Next time hopefully the current won't be ripping so much for bottom fishing! Here's Brad and Dad with some nice silvers for this time of year.

It's always about size, eh Mike :grin:oops, sorry about that bud. Mt space out
Your boat really is a beauty, it's always great to fish out a boat that's really at home in the salt like that. It was torture to have to cut sunday so short, but ya gotta keep the mrs. happy, ya know. Especially when she was watching my little one. I want those kitchen passes to keep coming so I can fish with you again soon. No doubt we would have limited with just a little more time.
Thanks for posting the pics, and I look forward to doing the dad and kid foursome real soon. It's gonna be killer!

Re: 4th of July weekend salmon with Nalu.
The fish I release always grow a lot after they are safely out of sight. But, I am really impressed that NALU's boat can grow from 24' when he bought it to 29' today, and he didn't even have to release it. In a few more years it might be as big as the Julie Rose III.
Nice report.

Re: 4th of July weekend salmon with Nalu.
Just for clarification....It is a Sailfish 25 with an offshore bracket. Back then the bracket was not included in the registered length. Now, the same (beam, layout, and cockpit size)boat is a Sailfish 27. As far as the 29' LOA goes, I was politely informed that I had to include the length from bow sprit to back of motors in the total length for mooring purposes (read fees).
I'm hoping with love and plenty of salt water that she will grow into at least a 38' boat in the next five years.
