Default Anchor Nest Safety

First I would like to thank Ifish member Cooter for this bit of information. I read the Motion Marine vrs Big Water anchor post. Cooter said he felt alot better about the Big Water Nest because of the SAFETY PIN that holds the anchor in place. Now he doesn't have to worry about it flying out of the holder and into someone's head in case of an accident. I found this to be vital information and felt everyone who has a Motion Marine Anchor Nest should think about this. I know I never even thought about something like this happening to me. From now on I will be cleating my anchor rope. Maybe everyone else has already thought of this. If that's the case then you can call me slow, but at least you won't be calling me because something unfortunate happened that could have been prevented.

Member Cooter thanks again for proving why Ifish is such a great place to share ideas and information.

Does anyone have a picture of either or both of these anchor nests, or where can a guy look at them? I need to do something different on my boat, someone keeps knocking the paint off from my bow .

Thanks,
love2fish

Could a person modify the MM bracket? Like maybe install a safety pin. How would those tee handle pins with the button work? I think they are called pit pins.

Or you could just wrap your chain around your cleat (if you have one ) and problem is solved.

WaterDog,chain big, cleat small. Just bought the 6ft rubber coated chain, which is not as pliable as my old rusty one was.

My cleat is big enough for 2 or 3 wraps of 5/8" chain. Yeah, the rubber coating would make it difficult. I don't worry about a few scratchs since my boat was built to use.

I think Rogue Marine makes an anchor nest as well. Those that are looking for something different may want to look at those as well.

I have A MM marine Anchore nest on my NR. I just run a large bungie(heavy duty) around my cleat, and attach both hooks directly to the anchore where the chain is welded. The bungie, holds the anchore tight in the craddle while appling down-force.

I wanted the MM one but didnt want to cut off the one that came with the boat so I made one that fits over the original after unbolting the top part. Anyway I just loop my bow rope over the anchor then tie it off back to the cleat.

Freespool I have the motion marine style (from steven's marine) The modifacation(speeling) is simple. \ Drill a hole through the frame that a grade 8 bolt and nylalock nut or oin and run it through the frame and a link on the chain. Thats how I did it anyway.
