Default newbie/sturgeon ?

well i guess the on going tradition here is to give you a story about a fishing experience that we had. well here it goes. i was about ten years old and me and my brother spent most of our time catching bluegill and crappie, but one day we were watching tnn outdoors and saw a show about carp fishin. i beleive it was roland martin. anyway he was slayin them and they were big so we had to try it. his secret was that he was boiling corn inkoolaid. so the next day we boiled two cans of corn in cherry kool aid and went for it. by god it worked, we had about 12 fish to the bank by ten o clock and all were between 8 and 12 pounds.so we left went home had lunch then went back down to the pond.sat there for about ten minutes and boom andys pole starts going off.now when these things hit this corn for some reason they hit it like a salmon hitting a kwikfish. anyway will andys pole is going off i was up and gonna grab this fish for him. my pole starts going and before i can get there this fish pulled the rod holder right out of the ground bam my brand new trout pole gone. after that i was hooked for life. any fish that can do that with a pole holder is worth my time. now for my ?, when the water is running off color like it is do you change your methods for sturgeon at all. like leader length or do you fish deeper or shallower do you just kinda got to look and experiment to find the fish. just lookin for opions

FTF10, Welcome, Great story. I haven't fished for carp in years. As for sturgeon I move around until I find the fish. High water or not. In cold water I tend to fish the channel instead of the big river. Just my 2 cents Rich

Water color doesn't matter for sturgeon. I usually vary my leader lengths just for kicks but sometimes you'll notice a difference so be adaptable. Biggest thing is if you not getting bites move. Some days we'll move 10 times or more. Other days you drop on em and fish till the bait runs out. Expermenting is always a good thing.

Oh, and welcome aboard.

Welcome feelthefish10.
Carp fishing is also a science. Not popular here in the Norhwest, but wery prized in Europe. I have heard recipies including, instant coffe, hot red peeper, anise,.........
The preference changes.
As for sturgeon I am assuming you are fishing from the boat. I use 3' and a sliding sinker on the mainline. Depth varies. I strongly believe that sturgeon moves to shallover water in the evening. that is for all water. Experiment with scents alot as well .
