Default Mathews LX or Hoyt Xtec

I am buying a new bow and am stuck between the Mathews LX and the Hoyt XTec. I have shot them both and there are things I like about each. The Hoyt had less vibration. I liked the draw and the solid wall on the Mathews more. Bow weight was a wash. They shot exactly the same speed(258) for me with my draw and arrow. The Hoyt is $50 more.

I really can't decide. Please give me some facts and opinions that may help me decide which way to go.

Thanks
Rick

I own a LX and have nothing but great things to say at this point. I'm very very picky about how my bow shoots and so far it's passed with flying colors on all of the technicals of tuning and prepping. I also like the variable ablility of changing between 65 and 80% letoff without changing the cams. Once I owned my first mathews I swore I'd never own another bow again unless something really knocked me off my feet. There's a reason all the top shooters seem to be shooting one type of bow.

For the most part you're comparing apples with apples. These are both top-of-the-line bows, and are comparable models.

I shoot an LX, and like it very much. Having never shot the Xtec, I can't say which I like better.

When I first shot the LX at the shop, I was taken back by the vibration. Then again, the LX is rated a little hotter than the Xtec (317fps vs. 310fps). Once I got it home, put a stabilizer on it and some limb savers, I no longer notice any vibration. It's a very quiet bow, and I have no intentions of adding string or harness silencers for hunting. I was able to get 310 fps at 70# draw weight shooting a 350 gr. ACC with a 29" draw, and it was still very quiet and very managable.

Like TC said, having the opion of 65% or 80% let-off is nice, particularly if you're into 3D (or if Oregon decides to follow Pope & Young in allowing a higher let-off). I used to be a non-believer in high let-off bows, believing they were too 'snappy' to tune well without giving up some forgiveness. I have a different opinion now...

Whichever you get, you shouldn't be dissappointed. Besides, it's your $50.

I have friends who shoot both Mathews and hoyt and are happy with both. I shoot Bowqtech and love it. Shoot them both a lot and take your time choosing.

I've been told that the legacy is smoother shooting than the lx. I shoot a razortec and have nothing bad to say. I like the idea of being able to adjust the draw length myself for free. That will help when it comes time to sell it. You have to buy a different cam for the mathews. Both bows will shoot better than the shooter so you will essentially be happy with either. I think you'll be more accurate with the xtec, but that is my own opinion.

Good luck and enjoy

I ended up with the LX. One bit of irony. On the day I picked out the bow I hurt my shoulder so now I have to wait a while to shoot it.
