Default STURGEON REPORT 1/14

Fished with a friend out of st helens today below columbia city and man was it SLOW! Caught one shaker and thats it. Tried smelt, shrimp and squid with shrimp getting the most bites. It was one of those days when they would just barely move your pole and by the time you picked it up they had already spit it. We would have moved around more to try and locate more fish but even with the propane heater it was pretty dang cold and neither of us felt like pullin anchor much. Sure was good to get out with my fishing budddy and rehash all the good times weve had together!

Columbia is COLD!! 36degrees is what I read on Sunday.

Stay in the Willamette, it was 41 degrees...from Kelly Point up, try the Toyota dock.

We fished Sunday in the Columbia and did not even get a bite! We fished up the slough and ran out of bait! Took a 45" The meat was crystal clear.

I do NOT know the river well (i.e., new boat owner = no experience) Where is "the slough" Anybody wanna give a location and water depth? Think I have the bait choice down....smelt, squid, worms, scent

Thanks

If you are putting in @ Saint Helens .....go out of the marina and go right and stay to the right and you are in the slough....
If you are putting in @ Cathedral park Head downriver and the first left is the Multnomah channel (slough)......
Good luck!

There is a good stretch of deep water about two miles up from St.Helens.
