Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
Several months ago I started a discussion about Rogue Rods. After expanding my inventory to (4) Rogue Rods here at my winter home in Florida, I found occasion to use the warranty because of a problem. An eye broke off in the middle of the rod, looks like the metal was just too thin. Upon returning it to the local rod shop, I was told they would fix it for $11 or I could pay to have it shipped to Rogue Rods and enclose a payment for $20 and RR would fix it. I tried to contact Rogue Rods via email on their website and all emails were returned. Further correspondence got no answer. I telephoned and was told, I would be sent a new rod. Several weeks had gone by and I received nothing. A follow up telephone call and I was told that their warranty says that I must return it prepaid and include a $20 check. I have returned Loomis rods over the counter for exchange and shipped back to them and I don't recall ever paying a fee. What's been your experience?

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
Last time I had rods needing repair from Loomis, I called them up, they told me to send them in with $20 to cover shipping (for four rods) and they would take a look at them and let me know what they could do. Before I knew it, four brand new rods were sitting on my doorstep with no additional charges or questions about how they were broken. I will definitely continue fishing and buying Loomis rods.

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
Rogue makes a really nice blank that is definately better than any of the competition for the price, unfortunately there componets used are sub par.

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
I heard very recently at Fishermans that Rogue Rods has gone out of business...
Any truth in this?

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
I have Loomis rods that I bought in 1991 and have caught a lot of fish and have been USED and ABUSED...They have never been in need of repair
I have other Loomis rods that have been purchased within the last 7-8 years...Since I changed over to primarily using Tuff Line I have had to replace two rod tips...because the ceramic finally wore out...that's cause I use the salmon rods for salmon and sturgeon...
There are plenty of rods out there for under $100 bucks but you may have to replace them several times OR Not! I also have a couple of Lami's they have held up very nicely...
Where you will find problems is the company that Mass produces rods...the Quality goes down...

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
Ive also heard sub par reviews about rogue rods from retail sales people in the fishing industry.
Lamiglas and Loomis are my only high end rod experiences and are a pleasure to fish with. When used with care ive never had a Loomis/Lamiglas rod fail.

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
I am a Lamiglass user series 1300, have had some problems with ones built in the mid '80's but never a problem with getting one repaired.

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
Those were just discontinued rods, they are still in business, they went into chapter 11 and are out now from what I understand.

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
My vote is for Loomis. Own quite a few Loomis rods, and have never had any problems. Have a few Lami's as well and no problems. No personal expierence with Rogue, but have a friend that uses them, and seems like he's had nothing but problems. When he tried to return rods on warranty, he ran in to same issues as traskriverhouse did. No return correspondence, and when he finally did contact them was told to send rods w/check to cover shipping, and the rods would be inspected for warranty. Rods were replaced, but not witout a lot of leg work and hassle. This might just be a isolated situation regarding Rogue, but I still vote Loomis.

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
Last May I broke my gl3 medium heavy rod. Called 1800-gloomis only to find out they no longer will take your rod and inspect it but only to use the expadite service for $50 bucks, after already dropping $300 for it in the first place. I like it its sensitive but wasn't too happy when my other rods have been abused ten times more and replaced no questions. One last note, I should of drove to Loomis instead of going to work, good chance it would of been swapped at no cost but my job is more important than 50bucks. All in all good rod just my own experience.

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
To sidestep all of the warranty issues with rogues, jus take them to joes and in 2 weeks you'll have a new or fixed rod for free.

I agree. Quantity up, quality down.
In my opinion the pre Shimano Loomis rods were better rods than the current offerings.

Re: Rogue Rods vs. Loomis
I also fish Lamiglas. I have never fished a Rogue or Loomis nut i have seen people fish both and the rr rods seem to break quiet often. Never seen a loomis bust.
