Default TR-1 Boat

Ok back from the Portland Boat Show, and I need advise from ifishers. I have fished out of a pretty old and tired bayliner for quite some time, I want to do up a TR-1 Boat( Mine just not going to work) I just want opinions on welded aluminum boats, hard top, soft top, v-8 the list goes on, no need for boat bashin here, let me know what you got and how you like it.

Thanks,

Pete/TR-1 Autopilots

Peter,

I bought a 2000 Harbercraft Nahanni 19' with Suzuki DF70 outboard. I use it from the big blue to the high lakes, and the Columbia. I have a full soft top.

Best thing is the fuel economy of the Suzuki 4 stroke. Top end is 43 MPH and it trolls for salmon at the right speed. I don't need or use a kicker.

The worst thing is salt water dripping from the top zippers onto the dash from ocean spray.

Next boat will have a hard top, since I use the top for cover from hot sun and pouring rain. Maybe move up to a 21' something or other but I'd want to keep the power as a Suzuki Outboard. Maybe on an offshore bracket.

If it were me I'd plan on attending the sportsman show next month. Poke around the boats, see what you like, talk to the sales people. A friend of mine bought a TJ because they could build a boat fairly quick. So you want to ask about the lag time, unless springer season doesn't mean that much to you. Good luck.

What do you want your boat to do? What kind of fishing will you primarily be doing? Where you primarily be using it? With those some Q?'s answered it will be easier to get a viable answers.

Question for you Pete.......I just recently received my wireless remote for the gold.

I am about to install it....Do you have any suggestions on the best location for the antenna in a 22' North River inboard?

Having no run time with it....I do not know how picky it is about location.

If my back is turned to the antenna and the wireless remote is hanging from my neck...does that block the signal?
Or is it like my garage door opener that works from 200' down the street?

Get an open sled in the 22-24 foot range. If you are gonna do nothing but fish from it, make sure it is an outboard with a tiller, to maximize fishing space. I'd suggest a Merc 4-stroke jet(biggest you can find[200hp?]) and a nice Merc 4 stroke kicker. Can you tell I like Mercs? I have a 22' Alumaweld V-Sled wit a 200 Merc hanging off the backside and a 8 horse kicker. Never let me down yet!

Pete i bought a 1925 Jetcraft last year and it has a 115 4 stroke yamaha on it. What i like about it is that it has a full height transon and very deep sides. It runs about 38 mph on the gps. Seems to track well trolling and handles well. I fish the adirondack lakes and lake ontario and troll most of the time and it is a good platform for that. Bought a 2004 9.9 yamaha for it this november and last week ordered a tr-1 from Rob. Had a tr-1 on the other boat i sold and it spoiled me. I had to get one for the new boat.

Pete,

You 've seen my Motion Marine and will get a chance to look at it again when you install the remote for my Tr1 Auto pilot during the sportsman show. It's a quality boat with many great features.

You just described my boat, Pete.
22' T-Jet, If your concerned with the rails not tall enough, you can have them made taller. The rails did seam kind of short at first, but after a few times out fishing I got used to them. (Small kids fish out the side just in front of the rail.)

Dang I like that boat! do you have air ride seats? if not do you get beat to death in small chop? The whole reason I want the raised deck is for the kids, ans storage. Seems theres alot of stuffing room without tripping over it all.

Thanks alot

Pete

I have a 21' TJ with a hardtop. I did not like the raised deck so I ordered mine with the doghouse. I also have 3 childred that fish with me. I feel much safer having them "In" the boat instead of "on" it. We love the boat and appreciate the hardtop as much in the summer as in the winter. Good Luck

Thanks for all the input.

As for the antenna, just hook the kit up, locate a spot you may want the antenna, then make sure you can move about your boat and use the wireless. I have mine down in a battery compartment and it works great. ( Fiberglass boat) as long as it works you got a good spot. Im back from a ten day boatshow, and did look at all the boats, my problem is I like them all. I am thinking about a thunderjet, inboard v-8 jet with a hard top. Any thunderjet owners prefer the standup platform in back with rails? seems the rails are to short if the boats rockin and rollin.

The other is a Northwest Jet, I have the same concerns as with the thunderjet. I will fish, find remote camp sites, crab. I have a five year old little girl who has a crush on salmon, and a 15 year old son thats scared of the monster on the end of the line.

thanks for all the input again.

Pete/Tr-1
