Default just when i was losing hope....

howdy all , what a heading huh? so heres what it's about. i took my sons up to the shad rack, wanted to make bait for crabbing, then later go for oversize. my oldest son 15yrs said he really wanted to try one on for size. we caught about 50 shad by 11:00, then went down river for sturgon. used a whole male shad and had our first hookup about 10 mins. after anchoring up. it took him about 45 mins. , to the boat came a 7'er.a clean release , and back to the anchor to rerig.he was whipped!! so rebaited and now my youngest son 13, wanted to wrassle one, i told him maybe we could hook up with a legal size, :depressed: NOPE, :depressed: he wanted to beat his brothers.we had a few hard take downs but no hookup , so we were going to call it a day at 3:00.yada yada yada, three o'clock and wham!! instant hook up, the fish made the one jump to check out who or what had it...HOLY SOCKS!!  this was the biggest sturgon i've ever seen.my son fought it for about 1/2 hr before asking for a break, handed off to #1 for about 5mins then back at it. and this is the way it went for 1 1/2 hr.he finally got the fish to the boat, at the end i had to pitch in, #2 wanted to land it by himself, i really admired his determanation. so a clean release, and we all sat back for a cold one..root beer that is. i've got pictures and will add soon.OOPS, i got so excited reliving this trip i forgot my heading. as we were drifting down river , i was trying my best to keep the fish close to shore, out of the current.. but we all know a fish this big goes where it wants. well this fish decides it wants to be in the main channel, right over another boats anchor line. as we were being drug over to the other boat, i motioned big fish and we're coming your way. i hoped he would reel in and we could get below his line before we crossed.SO..i' getting there... not only does he reel in his fishing lines , but has another guy start the boat and quickly pulls his anchor.. all this truly in th "nick of time". i didn't get to thank him, i don't know if his a ifisher, but out ther in the midest of all the new boaters,( that don't understand),old boaters who don't care, just how close it was to a tangled mess, is a first class fisherman. that i'm sure wanted to see this kid catch this monster as much as i did. thank you.

sounds like you guys had a good time

however I wouldn't try it again. fighting an oversize for 1 1/2 hours is way to long your son sounds like a great kid who was way over matched. that possibly killed that fish! this is why we cant fish below bonn.. and why we proably will lose this fishery all together very soon get after it and get it done 20 or 30 min. tops and back un harmed no head shots no nothing.

but not to beat you up just to let you know that 1 1/2 hr is why they die. it stress them out way to much.
