Re: water temps
In SMALL LAKES (not rivers or reserviors) in the SPRING, I've found a reasonably accurate way to predict average daily surface water temperatures. It's not perfect, but it's more accurate than asking what the temperature HAS been:
I simply take the AVERAGE of the daily forecasted high and low air temperature for the day I'm fishing. Try it!
Example: 70 degree forecasted high air temperature that day, with a low temperature forecast of 50 degrees....60 degrees, will be not far off of a surface water temperature estimate.
Real deep lakes don't seem to conform to this pattern as well, but shallow lakes do.
