My OMC aux motor bracket gas shock died - help!

I have an OMC aux motor bracket for my kicker and the gas piston no longer will assist in lifting the motor. Believe me, its alot harder lifting the 8 without it. I have looked around on the net and don't seem to come up with any parts or even the original unit. Almost like they stopped making em or something. Anybody got a lead where I can get a new shock?

Mine died recently too.I checked at Oregon City Marine center and they gave me a price of 180 dollars!What is up with that?I just can't see that much for what it is.I will check into the rebuilding thing,but for now,leaving it in the lowered position and tilting the motor up tp run is working,although I have to reach way out there to do it.If you find out something let me know.An affordable solution that is.
