Default Ex -Lurker

Howdy fellow Ifishers!
I have been lurking on ifish for a few months now and have noted a lot of conversation about lurkers. Somewhere I noted something about when you join to share your story.

Whatever. Boring in my opinion but you (or someone) asked for it so here it is.

Divorced amost a year ago. I got a major bug to buy a boat since. The kids and I am still recovering from the financial nightmare from the divorce so I am looking for a true "starter" boat for the kids and I. A great friend of mine at work damn nears lives on ifish all day at work and got me addicted to the site. As a computer admin, I accidentally deleted his favorite web sites (ifish being number #1). I wasn't sure if he was going go kick my ass or just cry. That is another story though. Back to my story. I am looking for a boat and no worries, I have been checking the classified parts on ifish regularly and yes, I went to the boat auction at Pier 99 and made some bids. None were winners though (damn it!).

I guess my main question is this. I want to take the kids fishing and since I have never really fished in the Portland/Vancouver area without my buddy I mentioned above, which forum should I be looking at? For example, I want to try out Battle Ground lake in Vancouver in hopes of some bank fishing. I have looked on ifish for some hints about the lake but dont see any. Got any suggestions?

Mike

PS, great site! Lots of great info/reading.

PPS. Will do computer repair, web site work or anthing for boat. :-) The kids would like it too. :-)

Snowman,
Welcome to the show..as for info on battleground..it's a state park and normal bobber style or power bait off the bottom is the ticket..walk in access and boats are welcome without motors, there was a cougar attack siteing earlier this week there.

If you want lake info you could post a "how to or where to" on the panfish board..or just post "BattleGround Lake Help"
on this board and you should get the info your looking for.

Excellent! Thanks for the help Fshklr! Do you know if it is kid friendly? As in, does it have an area to ride bikes while the lines are in the water? Is there a best place to bank fish?

Thanks again.

there is no designated bike spot that I'm aware of..haven't been there for some yrs..there is a swimming log boom, and a trail of sorts that follows the circular lake with limited spots to stop and fish.

Most just access the dock or the front area to the right or left of launch area, as it's best for kid fishing and safety.

Parking is a designated area some 300yards at top of a steep hill..lake is at the bottom and a walkin is required, but you can drive down and drop off kids gear etc, not sure if a parking or use fee is required by the county.

used to be a jungle area for kids..swings etc but it is not near the water or within eye sight for safety and bathrooms are also out of the way sorta but you will see them as you make your way down the hill.

Tight lines..I always did best with orange powerbait on top of anise flavored white marshmellow on a 30" leader. Single #10 egghook and a sliding 1/2oz egg sinker.

go to the trout section of tackle store..G.I. joes etc and look for the small half pints of colored or flavored marshmellows..thread one on hook and then slide down to expose hook then take a pea size of power bait paste and roll into ball and place onto hook covering hook.

There are anise, cheese, shrimp, and garlic flavored mallows
