Springer fishing slow? Try PDX area gators!
Last week with the Columbia closing we have been doing some gator recons in the PDX area and man the fishing is HOT HOT HOT!
Sunday we went up the gorge and in 4 hours we landed 5 keeper sized fish... hot bait was squid loaded with scent. Yesterday my dad and I hit the Columbia just below the Willamette mouth and scored 7 keepers in 4.5 hours of fishing with two of them over 55"! Once again squid got the biggies but 3 of the keepers were on smelt! Yesterday we were in 60' of water. Try this scent combo in a scent injector to inject your baits... 1 part sturgeon feast, 1 part earth worm scent, 1 part shrimp scent.
This weekend has some outstanding minus tides and the sturgeon fishing should be off the chain. The big river is empty sans salmon fishers so if your bored and want some non-stop action finishing up with some sore arms hit the big river and tell the gators 5-Cents sent ya!
Next week the Estuary recon starts in full swing

Todd I have a feeling the salmon action will be a little faster in the Ocean in a couple months... until then its the estuary and dinosaurs for now
