Default Confused

Went fishing in the Fishery at Bonneville for a few hours this evening, this was a whole new experience for me. The part that puzzled me was we were marking fish between the depths of 8' to 12' but everyone was back bouncing in 26' to 30'. We didn't mark any fish on the bottom. There were 2 boats that seemed to have a fish every time we looked their direction. They were back bouncing eggs. I don't get it . Our fish finder has seemed to be very accurate, but not sure now. Anyone have an explanation for this???

Thanks
CM

The water is roily - full of bubbles. There's also lots of other fish in the water; possibly smolts, shad and pikeminnows. It's hard to say what a depthfinder will show, but I've never trusted them to show fish. Are you using arches or symbols? Arches are more accurate, but it requires more user processing to differentiate what's going on.

We have the Eagle Fish Easy which uses symbols. We were marking alot of small fish but every once in awhile we would mark alot big fish. Do the Springers hug the bottom up in that area? We were above everyone that anchors and in the back bouncing crowd.

Thanks

Those bigger fish could be steelhead or pikeminnows. Most of the time you will find salmon at or near the bottom of the water column.
