Default San Juan

Heading up to Roche Harbour this weekend with the family to stay with a friend on his boat. He's got a lot of salmon tackle under the rear hatches left over from when his uncle was alive, but has no clue how to rig. I've never fished in those waters, and would appreciate any advice, help, suggestions. What's running now? What's legal now? We're not going hardcore, rather just want to have some lines out while cruising and sightseeing. Thanks.

Never been up there this time of year. I would think you might be between Salmon openings??? Try this:

You can always play with the Dog Sharks. Just throw a Herring out, wont take long!

About the only thing left open right now in those areas are rockfish/bottomfish. Unfortunately the salmon season just closed however shrimp opens on the 24th, lingcod the first of may (hopefully) and halibut the 6th.

If you're still interested in fishing try going for greenling and rockfish in shallow with 3/4 ounce jigs and small rubber worms/shad/twin-tail grubs. They can be found almost everywhere that is rocky or kelpy. Fish in shallow (less than 50 feet) and you should be able to catch as many as you want.
