Default Dead ducks everywhere

I work for a local government agency, and it just drives me nuts this time of year. I end up picking up run over mallards every day(out of respect for the bird, not my job duty)
The goofy birds this time of year can only think of one thing, and it is not where to land safely.
The sit in the middle of the road, fly low and hit cars, so on and soforth. They shy away from my G&H spread and sweet tones in December, but will fly dead on into a Chevy on Farmington road without a flinch in April. Mating season, glad I never got that goofy in highschool

That sounds like my springer fishing. Lost plenty, didn't land a single one until the season closed for them, then I couldn't keep them off my hook when I was targeting summer steelhead! It's a plot! I blame Kulongoski!

I spent a year in Walla Walla going to college. There was a pond in the middle of campus full of mallards. By some quirk of fate the drakes outnumbered the hens by about 3:1. I am not kidding about this - three drakes would team up on a hen. Two would get on each side of the hen and grab the hen's wings or neck with its beak. The third would then mount her. MANY hens drowned during this experience. It was pretty shocking to see this on the way to class in the morning.

Someone told me that humans and ducks are two of very few animals that will ****. I don't know if thats true or not, but I read about humans every day in the paper and I've seen ducks.

It seems that only the Mallards are this stupid this time of year.
It is the breeding season for ducks, but you don't see Pintail, Widgeon or others this goofy Although most other species are farther South or North with the exception of the local Greenheads.
I just hate to see them get squashed by cars, but my wife laughs at me when I cry about ducks being hit by cars, but no problem when I drop'm with my Browning.

Chalk one up for me... there was a dead mallard on the shoulder of the road I ride my bike on about two weeks back. I passed it once... a few days later it was still there so I stopped and tossed it back into the tall swampy grass along the side of the road.

thought this was one of those Ducks vs Beavers [potty mouth] threads when I read the subject... Glad to see no Beavers in here embarrassing themselves.

I'm the same way. I've got no problem dropping them with my shotgun, but to see a dead duck on the side of the road is horrible. Personally, I think it's because all of the shooting has stopped. The ducks now know that they aren't getting shot at anymore, so they go wherever they want. Ending up in more duck accidents. They aren't scared to land in that little puddle of water on the side of the road.

It's wierd, but it just seems like you see ducks everywhere you look now, and I think it has a lot to do with them feeling safer. Maybe I'm give them too much credit...
