Default 11 Month Maggie update...

Well it has been a year since I put my Lab down. I got Maggie in June. She is a great dog. Since she is the first Springer Spaniel I've ever owned, I really don't know much about training her. She has the retrieve thing down. She likes to hang close. She knows what pheasants and quail smell like, and likes to jump on them. What else could a guy ask for??? Still practicing all the little stuff (come, sit, stay, heel, etc), She knows the stuff...just gets hard headed or playfully forgetful. She is a pup for sure...

Here is a mugshot  ...

Ain't that "Guilty as charged, Your Honor!" She actually sat still for 30 seconds so I could get the shot. Stellar!

You bring tears to my eyes, man. Starting a new pup, remembering the old, learning a new sequence and personality, but never forgetting....

Maggie is sure a cutie. I wish you luck on the training, but I suspect she's got the genetics (and hard-headedness) to overturn any bad decisions you might make in the process. They're terribly forgiving you know.

I keep thinking I'm going to get an upland breed one of these days, but I don't know straight up about training one. My lab would shake her head and tell you I don't know much about training a retriever either.

But I don't want to ever be without one.

Pretty pup!

Hard headed...hmmm, you met Maggie? Yeah, I know nothing about training upland dogs. That's why I got a Springer. I'm really concentrating on the citizenship stuff. I figure she has the hunting genes. Only hunting thing I'm working on is her working close. My lab worked close, all her life really. Maggie really likes to please, so that makes it easy. The thing I like best about her breed, I don't herniate a disk every time I load her in the truck...

Ohh The joys of puppyhood... My lab turns three in may and I am awaiting the passing of his puppy stage as everyone assures me this is the time they start to mature.

Skien I know someone in your area that may have some Vissla pups soon if you want a good Upland dog(I would go with a pointing lab myself)but if you are serious about a upland dog those Vissla make a nice one. Just dont ask them to swim after ducks if its under 60 out.
