Default WDFW FAQ's

"Domoic Acid
This page is currently being revised."

Can't help but believe that our discussions here have had something to do with the above.

We've had several, sometimes heated, discussions lately about clam digging. There are those, I among them, who remain unconvinced that demoic acid is the reason to close the beaches to digging.

No one wants to eat a "Mad Clam" but I haven't been able to find documentation that I am in danger.

We read about someone eating mussels and getting sick or some sealions eating anchovies but I haven't found anything about eating clams.

So when I went into WDFW's FAQs and saw "Health threats from Demoic Acid", I opened it and found "Domoic Acid - This page is currently being revised." I hoped that WDFW would finally address the effect of demoic acid on the clam eating public!

CK,
WDFW has been re-working their websites for 2004 and many URL's have been moved or deleted or in production.
Domoic Acid has not been an issue as of Sept 2003 so the info has been removed . As soon as Domoic Acid levels are in the unsafe zone I'm sure the info you are seeking will return. It was last up nearly an entire year with updates as the Domoic tests were being conducted and unsafe levels were reported.
