Astoria sturgeon report
Talk about from one end to another. Today's trip was a hundred miles down river from yesterday's..........I need some sleep!
Any way, I met my crew this morning in Astoria @ 7 o'clock for a sturgeon trip. Bill and Dale from Arizona who were up here to beat the heat, Keith from Vancouver and Killer Dave from Milwaukie.
The morning started out slow but then I noticed a jumper up river from us, then another. So we move up to their area. Of course then they jumped farther up river from us again. We hooked one shaker and had a few other bites but there was more jumping activity up and to our left so we moved again. This time we were in the zone.
Lots of bites but they just were not taking it too agresively but we were hooking a few. The we got our first keeper. After that the fish seemed to move through in groups and by noon we had our limit. We stuck it out another couple hours for some C&R but the bite slowed again. Back to the dock by two.
We got our fish in 12 feet of water on both smelt and anchovie, it didn't seem to matter except that the bullheads don't mess with the smelt as bad.
Keith also got a nice keeper flounder....all and all a pretty good day, everyone got their fish, we only got a slight sprinkle and a little breaze but we also had some sun.....
More sturgeon tomorrow.....
