Default Weight when trolling a fish flash?

I'm curious what amount of lead you guys use for trolling herring with a fish flash. I normally use 2oz trolling just straight herring, but everyone says keep your lead near the bottom. I'm pretty sure I'm close but wondered what some of your successful rigs were. Thanks!

8 oz. Line at 45 degree angle is what I was taught.

We trolled the 20 foot line last week and were able to get away with 6 oz with no problem.

2oz-16oz depending on how deep you want to fish.

10 pounds. The downrigger thing works well . Now if I could only afford some nice electrics that interfaced with my depth finder, I'd be set!

What Keta said. From 2 or 3 ounces all the way up. Depends on the current, size of fish-flash, depth you want to fish, etc...

It all depends on water conditions current speed, upriver troll vs downriver troll etc. We did well Saturday with 6 oz on a downstream troll somewhere between 10 and 30 pulls.
