Default Yarn when drift fishing

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone had a comment on the idea of attaching your yarn to the half hitch knot when tying up an egg loop?? Just wondering if there was a negative aspect to that or not?? Any info would be appreciated
Thanks,
TB

I tie the yarn to my egg loop for a couple reasons. The location enables the yarn to get caught in the teeth better, which will result in more hook-ups. Second, on those cold days using bait, it is much easier to grab the yarn and pull the egg loop rather than try to grab just the line.

Well maybe I need to exapand a little more on my question. Whenever I have been drift fishing using yarn, I always put attach it with the bait loop. My question is, right before you sinch down your final knot for the bait loop, can you put a dap of yarn into the actual knot. Basically, the yarn would be part of the bait loop knot. So it would not be able to be taken off of the knot once you sinch down on your half hitches.

When tieing up rigs for drift fishing, I purposely keep my egg loop short (maybe 4 or 5 turns). It holds the yarn just fine without me having to tie it in. If I'm going to be fishing bait, I'll tie my egg loops with a lot of turns (10 to 12) so that it doesn't cut through the bait.

I use only one half of a granny knot and tie it on the leader above the hook. My thinking is that (1)I want the yarn to flutter over the bait so it mimics what skein looks like after fished for awhile and (2) I dont want any short strikes with the yarn too far below the hook and (3) dont want a big knot that looks unnatural -- I have never had yarn work its way off due to the half-knot coming undone.

I guess each of us has his own techniques. Use whatever you feel comfortable with.

A buddy turned me onto these years ago and I rarely fish anything else........ put your yarn in the halfhitch loop and cinch it up tight. Then trim the yarn to your preference.

Heres one of mine.........

hope that helped

I TIE MY HOOK WITH A EGG LOOP AND JUST BEFORE I PULL IT ALL TIGHT I PUT YARN IN THE LOOP AND PULL IT TIGHT. THE YARN IS BELOW THE EGG LOOP.
