I wanted to let everyone on ifish know that the local Steelheaders chapter is sponsoring the Second Annual Fishing Expo on April 24th located in Charleston. The following information is "ifish approved by Jenny." It's going to be an all day event with booths, boats rigged to fish for various species and speakers from around the area to talk about how to rig and fish for salmon, bottomfish, halibut, and TUNA!!! The Seminars and booths will be going on from 9 am until 2 pm, and after that will be open to discussion with the various speakers also if there are specific things you need to know.
I'll include some of the speakers but not all of them are ifish approved for mentioning so I'll leave it generic.
Seminars include.....
*Ocean Salmon - By a local Charterboat Captain
*Bay Salmon Fishing and Rigging Herring - By a Professional Guide on the S.Coast.
*Rockfishing Techniques
*Dave Gifford from the OSP will talk about specific regulations that have changed recently and what they mean.
*And of course yours truely and my father will be giving a talk on local TUNA FISHING!!

and tactics used up and down the coast. We'll include information about how to locate water temps, proper trolling speeds, rigs for both handline and rods, properly handling the catch, and storage needs for your boat.
Most of the presentations will be a power point or overhead so people can see what is going on and how to rig everything step by step. Boats will also be setup so others can see exactly how we rig and fish for different fish.
Representatives from the following companies will also be there with booths and for information purposes:
-Scotty Downriggers
-Electronics Specialists from Englunds Marine
-Tom Stuart representing Luhr Jensen, Tuf Line, and Okuma Reels
-Salmon Steelhead Journal
-Multiple Boat Manufacturers from around the local area will also be there to show off different models.
-Steelheaders will have an informational booth and will also feature how to "Properly Prepare and Can Tuna" by various people and multiple recipes for preparing seafood. (Just in case the wife might want to come along).
This is the 2nd Annual event, and already people are calling non-stop to find out how to get there. It's a free event with small vendors for food and drinks available also. Driving directions are pretty simple. Take Highway 101 into Coos Bay until you see a sign to Charleston going West. Turn there and follow the signs. It'll be located just before you cross the bridge on the left going into Charleston. Impossible to miss. If anyone has any information feel free to ask. Oh yeah if anyone want to find me and say hello I'll be the guy with a Salty Dogs Sweatshirt on at the Tuna booth.
