SW Oregon Spring Bear

Since snow is not a factor in SW OR, is there an advantage to getting out there early in the season before they get much pressure or waiting for may when the weather is better and everything is really getting green?

I have hunted for bears in the fall but have never really targeted them in the spring like I plan to do this year. Any info would be appreciated.

I've been talking to the landowner who's property I hunt on near Glide, and he hasn't seen any bears yet. He usally starts seeing them in mid-late April. Thats when I'll be hitting it hard. I'm going to try and make the week of the 19th a productive trip and get a bear and a turkey while I'm down there!

There are some bears already out. However your chances are a lot better once the weather warms up a bit and the grasses start coming out in good numbers on the open slopes. Approx. 80% of the bears around here are killed in the last week of the season.

I plan on hitting the umpqua national forest on April 13th-18th. I am going to hike in and camp. Taking my bow and rifle.

I went up where I am going a couple weeks ago and ran into snow before I could get to the trail head. But drove around and found some cat crap and what looked like bear. (not an expert). So I hope to get both and hopefully a turkey too.
