What a way to get spoiled! There is no place in the lower 84 that can compare to this year at Astoria. Limits were common, even with a four fish per person limit
I fished 20 days in Astoria and we landed 351. That's an average of 17.5 fish per trip! The last two years before this my average has been 7.4 per trip.
We usually got our limits every day with an average of two to five chinook included. Then when it closed to chinook we were catching and releasing six to ten of them per day, go figure! We even caught two steelhead on herring down there this year.
We caught most of our fish 12 to 24 "pulls" down in a number of places. Location was just dependant on the tide. All but a small percentage were taken on cut plug herring. The ones that were not were on either anchovies or on Cyote spoons.
The fish were in the nicest shape in years too. With the ocean conditions we've had this fall should be fantastic and i'm very excited about it.
