What a let down of a week, especially after such fantastic fishing we had in Astoria. I came home early from Astoria for family reasons ( my sister got married)and hopes of whackin' them in the Clackamas. Should have been fishing the coast.
Yes, the Clack is full of silvers, getting them to bite is a whole different story. I've tried every thing I know to catch silvers here on my home river and in two days, Monday and yesterday, all I had to show was one jack we caught on a diver and eggs.
Today and Tuesday I fished the mouth of the Cowlitz on the Columbia. It wasn't very impressive either. On Tuesday I saw twelve fish caught by about forty boats, we lost two. The first one was on a trolled spinner durring incoming, the second one was on a clancy durring outgoing.
Today we caught one and lost one trolling spinners and we lost one on a clancy anchored. We saw about a dozen fish hooked today. One guide boat got three of them, another guide boat got two, two different mom & pop boats had two each and the rest were split up between thirty other boats. All the other fish we saw hooked were on trolled spinners. Five of them were in a twenty minute span around high slack/first part of outgoing.
I'm going to take the next three days off and then be back on the Clack.
