Default Newport -ling/rockfish report- March 14th

Did pretty well on Ling and rockfish (black) last Sunday. Caught the ling on large herring and also on 2 oz jigs (large herring seemed to work better for legal ling). Black rockfish were hitting on 2oz jigs with white/black back shad type lure. Swell was running about 7 feet- still had some breakers on the south reef- You really need to be careful out there! Fished north of the jetty also in about 50 feet of water- nice schools of blacks in that area...Next time (should be out there today), I'll opt for a little less swell!

Thanks for the report, NWcajun.

Did you try shrimpflies on the black Rockfish?

We side drifted herring along Newports north and south jetty on saturday. We caught a undersized ling, and had a couple other good hook ups. It was a great day I'm still putting aloe gel on the sunburn .

I'm heading over there tomorrow (monday) to do a little ling/bass fishing along the jetties and some other nice rocky areas. Oh, and crabbing! Hope some of that success rubs off on us.
