Default Herring

Since we can't dip for smelt now, has anyone heard anything about the herring run? Are there any haerring in Newport? Need to find out. Thanks

Kind of a different opinion topic, but, my opinion is that the herring in Newport,spawners, are rather soft to use for trolling.
If you do decide to go jig for them, get them on ice and rock salt right away, or they will turn to mush.
Too bad we don't get any feeders in our bays.
