Report from Marlin fishing in the South China Sea
We're back from our trip to Malaysia.
Last week we fished three days for marlin 40 miles off the coast of Malaysia in the South China Sea. We had a good time and it was a great experience but the fish didn't hold up their end of the deal. In three full days of fishing we had about seven strikes and we saw five or six swim past our boat but never hooked up at all.
Our guide, a british gentalman that has lived and fished in Malaysia for 25 years, told us he has only had one other trip ever that they didn't get marlin. The fishng was pretty interesting. Local fishermen have placed "fish atraction devices" mad of bambo and palm fronds in different locations to attract bait fish. We tied off to these and used live bait fish and small tuna under a balloon for a bobber.
We did get one small hammer head shark.
Anthony told us that the best fishing was middle of the day when the sun was brightest and when the water was smooth, it is almost always like glass there. We had over cast to partly sunny skies and 10 to 30 mph winds with a two to four foot chop. Most of our bites came between four and five o'clock. I guess fishing is fishing every were you go.
The rest of the trip was very good. We met some wonderful people, had some great food, some quite different food, great tripical weather and really saw God move in some lives.
I can't wait to go back.
