What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
It seems like everybody here is free to share info and tips. I was just wondering if we couldn't condense things by putting them all one thread. Me first?
1. Merino Fleece socks at Costco. Thanks David J.
2. Double the wraps on your egg loops, instead of eight for the first part, make it sixteen. ???

Keep trying.
If it weren't for that bit of advice I would've given up after a year or two of donating gear to the river.

Braided line. Before I was using Maxima Ultragreen on my spinning rod and spent a lot of my time dealing with twisted tangled line. Now I can spend more time with my line in the water.

It was ifish that turned me on to the idea that I can take my boat and catch tuna ,,and it was the ifishers that were so kind to offer to help me learn and stay safe out on the blue. id. painter

Re: What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
I learned about Pacificboatland here on ifish. My Yami 225 was acting up and no one could pinpoint the problem. I think the quote was this, you can take it any where, but if you want it fixed right take it to them. It's running just fine now, thanks ifish.

My best tip came from an ifisher...Rags. He showed me how to fish with a float and jigs. He also told me about ifish.net. (unfortunately jigs don't work on the Rogue River )

Re: What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
I don't know about tips so much, although there are some dandy's. The best thing for me is I've met some really great fishing partners, and I suspect they will become good buddies down the road too.

1. Marie's Shrimp Oil - That stuff rocks
2. Frenchman's Bar - Where it is and how to fish it. Caught some of my first Columbia River fall chinook there this year.
3. How to build rods - Thanks to Roy's class that I learned about here.

Re: What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
I gotten a ton of good tips from this board. I lurk a lot and enjoy the "discussions" too.
Here's a tip I offered before but I don't think anybody has used it, just my experience.
TAKE A ROOKIE FISHING.
I've fished the Sandy, Trask and Wilson rivers. Actually fished the Sandy the most. Thrown at least $100 in gear/bait in the water and spent twice that on gas and haven't caught a steelhead or salmon. I did catch a 20 inch carp once. I'm free to fish on thursdays or fridays, and will drive. Lets go fishing

Re: What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
Can't say enough about what I've learned from ifish.
First and foremost is my friend Mark Anderson
He has shown me the ins and outs of bobber/jig fishing like no one I know.
Thanks to Mark I have an excellent knowledge of my favorite river and provided me with great friendship and fun fishing trips.
Others that have given me valuable tips on ifish.
Fishinmission - Mark put me into some nice salmon and steelhead...thanks Mark
Bill Hedlund - Shown me the correct way to fillet a fish and along with Jennie has shown me alot of hospitality and friendship
Fishin Magician - Johnny B, you could be a great guide dude! Best day ever for winter steelhead
Gizmo Man - Aw jeez! even the old dirt bag has given me some valuable tips
Marie of Tillamook Bait Co. - Your scents and shrimp has brought me alot of success over the last three years.
No doubt there are a lot of fine people here on ifish and I'm sure I left a few off of my list. Thanks go to all and especially Jennie for providing this great playground

Re: What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
The information on downriggers was great. Thanks all. I now have two Scotty 1050 manuals in my shop(Got them off EBay with all the trimmings) soon to be a fixture on the boat.
Also the fishing reports have been very helpful. Tried a couple recommendations from the board that produced more fish with technique tips and location data.
This is a great resource. Thanks!

Don't poke the bear......
Follow that white boat with big letters on the side.... he knows where the fish are.....
Learned a lot about anchoring in the Columbia and how to catch them Upriver Brights with big shiny pieces of metal. Still looking for that elusive springer though.....
Thanks Ifish!

Re: What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
Or is it:
Eight foot long leaders, tandem hook rigs w/ double corkies.
Set the hook between every turn of the reel.
Anchor your drift boat in the middle of the run and stay put all day.
Step in below fly fishermen.
#5 blue fox spinners is a great low water technique below the hatchery.
Just kidding .....

Re: What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
shorter cast are easier controlled and the better you control your cast and know what your line is doing the more fish you will catch.
 a bad cast can turn into a good cast with one quick jerk of the rod.
Also I learned about two great friends and great fisher people when I got to know dennis and Marrie at Tillamook Bait

Re: What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
Mine kinda has a check list
1. when going to fish a river dont ask questions, first do a search on the place you want to fish. now read all the items on that spot and pay attention if they are newbie's (small number of posts) or old timers and also pay attention to if they were 1. replyed by few or 2. replyed by many.
if it was replyed by few your on to something. my thoughts are someone emailed the newbie about posting a report on the ziperlip and he stoped or sometimes you even see it in the post (the change of topic). if you pay attention you can see the crafty old buzzards stear you away from the ziperlips and into the combat zones.....now all this is pure spectulation and you know what they say about fisermen "they are all liers except you and me an I am not sure about you" hope everybody has a fish filled thanksgiving....DJ

Re: What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
1. Pick your potential fishing partners wisely..
2. A fishing invite is only as good as the person giving it. Take it with a grain of salt and don't set your watch by it.
3. Be aware of keyboard cowboys that will be your best friend when they need something but will be the first to discard you and jump to the flaming side when replying to your post.
4. Once you get tip number one dialed in and know who you can rely on, keep the information that is shared close and guard it with lock and key if that his his/her wishes.
5. Don't ever ask a question that might have already been asked before or you will get forty three replies telling you to use the "search" function.

Re: What's the best tip you\'ve gotten from Ifish?
Steelie Steve. Be careful though, you might have to jump ship for that white boat or fish from the bank. You did Stew, but we will forgive you.
Don't pick on the parrot, don't kick the kangaroo
You have to mind your manners when you're visiting the zoo
Don't grab the gorilla, don't sneak up on the snake
Don't jump on the jaguar to see if he's awake
Don't bug the bears, don't whack on the whale
You'll get in great big trouble if you tug the tiger's tail
Be kind to all the critters at the zoo
Be nice to them and they'll be nice to you
Don't tickle the turtle, don't tap him on the shell
And don't squeeze the skunk, unless you like the smell
Don't chase the chipmunks, don't poke the porcupine
Whatever you do, I'm telling you, don't put lipstick on the lion
Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't
Doodle on a poodle, don't bounce a bunny's buns
And you don't want to know how fast a rhino really runs
So don't kiss a codfish, don't even get too close
'Cuz he might fall in love with you
While you're visiting the zoo
