Default Trask fin clipped fall nook

Pop's and I fish with FM2 Saturday on the trask. Nice day but very cold. Pop's caught a nice little nook that was kind of strang. Shaped like a football and around the 12 to 14 lbs range it was also fin clipped. Any possibility this is an early springer or is there a system that clipps their fall fish. We were on the Trask if that helps. Would appreciate any helpful information.

FM2 thank you for the drift and for getting us into some fish. It was kind of a spotty day at first with Pop's landing a nice native coho buck at Lorens and it was not until later in the day that we hit some nice fish. FM2 landed a coho boot and Pops had two more fish that came unhooked. I personally lost a nice fish that was most likely around 20+lbs. All in all a nice day and great company. Thanks Keith.

I know of 6 clipped fall fish from Tilly tidewater that were NOT in the Trask. Can only assume they were Trask strays.

The Trask hathery releases a small number ( relative to other runs ) of fall chinook. I think some or all of them are fin clipped. There was a good return of those fin clipped fish this year. I have put 9 clipped Tillamook bay chinook in my boat this fall. On one peticular day 2 of the 4 my clients boated were clipped fish. I have seen more clipped fish this year than any other season. Thanks, just wanted to verify if the Trask had a clipped fall run. Seemed strange at the time. Thanks for the information.

When I read the title of this post I didn't believe it. I thought there was no way you caught any chinook. But then when I found out it was Pops that caught it, I guess it's possible. Congrats Pops on showing the whipper snapper how it's done

Interestting- last I heard the Trask Hatcheries were not raising/releasing ANY Fall Chinook, clipped or not. Can anyone verify this?

It was my pleasure to get you and pops out there for a much needed drift trip. I don't know who needed it most but pops kinda whupped up on ya bro Now you can't blame what side of the boat he was on cause I think he could have used a top water bass plug and out fished ya that day Just giving ya a bad time, it was fun and am looking forward to the next trip!!

Not exactly sure on my numbers, but the Trask hatchery has been planting fall chinook for many years. At on time I know they were even trying to establish a December chinook run on the Trask. I took part in trying to catch early winter chinook on the Trask with biologists back in the early 90s, so that they could spawn those fish, hoping that there spawn would also come back in December and January.

Up untill recently, they were only finclipping 10% of the fish they released. I now believe that they are required to clip all of the fish.

The Tillamook fall chinook run has been estimated to be 10% to 15% hatchery fish for the total fall run for as long as I can remember.
