The preliminary numbers I have heard are 100,000 for the Willamette and 250,000 for the Columbia above Bonneville. ODFW & WDFW will come our with a forecast in December, I believe.

If you haven't done so, it would be a good Idea to write to ODFW & WDFW and tell them what springer season means to you. They are determining right now, how many springers will be given to gillnetters and how many will be given to sportsanglers. Every letter helps.

There was a post with all the contact information provided by "Pete" not to long ago.

The predictions look very good for 2004.

However, it doesn't matter how many fish there are if you don't have the opportunity to fish for them - i.e., if the commercial gillnetters are given a majority of the allocation, or if they kill too many endangered-stock fish, in both cases the sport season would be dramatically curtailed.

If you want to maximize your chances at springers go to Pete's thread and then write a quick note to your Legislator - it really does make a big difference.

Here's the link to Pete's post with all the info, including 'find your legislator'.
