Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I am really upset this morning
Maybe I got up on the wrong side of the bed, maybe I am just having some kind of man time of the month or maybe (and this one is most likely) I just care too much but this board just is not fun like it used to be
It seems that petty jealousy and snide comments rule the roost now... and let me tell you it's getting old real fast!
What am I talking about... well its been maybe a month or so since I posted a report, I am almost afraid to do it anymore because I don’t want to upset people or deal with their BS. I finally post a report about sturgeon fishing the gorge and someone who I considered a friend from this board, Tackle Buster gives me a rash about two words in my post! Gun Rod Bow whom I met before and he seems like a great guy takes a direct stab at the Carrots in his latest post.
Whats up with that????
This is a FISHING board. People are SUPPOSED to post pictures of their fish and talk about how fishing went. THAT is WHY I log on and read it. What kind of person makes a post saying I catch a lot of fish but never post any reports to tell you the fishing is good and put down people that do???? THAT IS CRAZY! Then people agree? Ya thats great lets log onto Ifish to get a report... oh ya there aren’t any reports anymore! Good grief Charlie Brown!
I think it has come down to that people don’t want to post reports anymore because they are afraid they will get picked on, put down, made fun of and so on? Is THAT part of a community that you want to belong to? Ifish used to be all about reporting and posting pictures and helping others! That’s what I still want it to be about. Next time one of you people feel like you have to criticize someone for something go somewhere else! I want to help and report but I just am sick and tired of people taking pot shots!
Everyone, and I mean everyone on both sides of the line, needs to grow up a little and get over their little tiff’s and huff’s! If we were all kids we would be in time out so much we would never get on the water then at least we would have an excuse!
I know that 95% of you out there are decent people and when you log onto Ifish you want to have fun. Let’s not let the 5% rule the roost!
Well after that rant I feel a little better… I am going fishing now and that should make me feel a lot better.
**** Mod’s I am sorry if this breaks some kind of rule, that is not my intention I am just tired of everyone acting like spoiled brats! ****

Is it fun for me? Yes.
Has the dynamic changed in the last couple years? Yes. Some for the best, Some not for the best.
But it is still fun for me.

5 cents: I have to agree with you. But it's not just here. The bass club I belong to is getting to be the same way.
I think it's all a part of the Me first club and a lack of true repect for other people. Look at the ramps,Cut offs' jet ski's( lake lice). And at anchor there is alway that person that has to run wide open 20 foot away from you with out a another boat in sight.
But then am one of those 50 year poops who is looking more, for a good time and less conflict in my days now.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
5 Cents,
Don't let other people's comments get you down. You've been a great contributor to the board and I've learned a lot from reading your posts. Thanks! The board generally appears to have changed its tone in the past year. I continue to visit the site to learn and I'm still learning valuable things so I'm fine with it. You know how people are - the more successful you are at something the more threatened some people get. Take it as a compliment. Good luck fishing today.

5-Cents,
By the way, great photos from the gorge. I took my oldest son out for his first sturgeon experience last Sunday in Vancouver. The C&R was sixteen for 4 hours of fishing. He is hooked.
Happy fishing!

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I was not taking any pot shots by no stretch of the imagination. I guess we have a few things to discuss but I will not do them on this thread or this site for that matter because it's no one else's concern. Trust me bro, petty jealousy is the last thing I have. I think I can hang with just about anyone on the river and give them a run for their money.
As far as the question about this board being fun anymore goes, I guess we all need to step back and take a week long break from time to time. You can only get so much hate mail or flaming posts or stabbed in the back once too many times to start getting a little sick of it all. I think as a whole it is great, but with everything else in this world, it has it's moments.

I for one, enjoy reading your posts 5-cents. Keep it up. You seem to have a great sense of humor, and you obviously know how to get into the fishies. I'd love to fish with you sometime. Thats why I joined Ifish, to learn.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
It's fun for me too. I have to agree there are too many pot shots taken, call it jealousy or maybe an ifisher slighted another in some way. You are right 5-cents, this is a board about learning, sharing,
making friends with others who love the same outdoor passion as the rest of us, and for some, it's an escape, as those unlucky enough to fish often can live vicariously through other ifishers.
I think the board often times is a mirror to what
society has become far too often. Envy is a human trait in so many of us and it can rear it's ugly head, usually at the wrong time.
Alot of the negative comments are personal attacks on others, and some are meant as jest, yet taken too seriously, I've seen both, who hasn't. Would be good if we could all play in the sandbox together and get along, and I hope some of the wrinkles get smoothed out, because I suspect beyond the screens you guys are all pretty decent people, the ones I've met sure are.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I agree somewhat that there seems to be an overrun of negative comments, but much of it is due in part to content.
How can you not get a bit heated when someone creates a thread regarding "SNAGGERS?" If you are a true sportsman, in my mind, this gets under your skin.
However, if someone opts to post pics or share a fishing spot, all I have to say is "thank you." Let's face it, it's not like our so-called "secret spots" are sacred or something...chances are others have access to the same spot.
I've fished all my life, and at only 27 years of age there are many times where I just want to get out and get some fresh air and not have to worry about all that's going on around me.
I think 5-Cents is right...let's brag about our fish, fish stories, boats, etc. and remind everyone why fishing is the greatest sport on Earth!!

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I do agree. I see a lot of spelling errors slip by, as they should. Then again I see someone jump all over the next one. Don't quite understand. I signed on this board to learn and share what little knowledge I have. I find there are a few members that are always willing to answer my questions, I know there are a lot of people who want to keep there knowlege to themselves.

5-Cents. It is still fun for me. I appriciate the posts you add to this site and the rest of the carrot clan.
I met you once in nehelam and you guys seemed very nice. I was looking forward to reading your post after meeting you and seeing how you did the next day. And as usual you did post how you did. I appriciate the time you take to post your reports they are always good pictures and reports. That is why I like I-Fish. Keep up the good reports.
I have met several I-Fishers out fishing and everyone I have met has been very friendly. It is suprising how many people we all actually know in the I-Fish community but don't recognize them by their I-Fish names. That is the other thing I like about I-Fish.
Keep up the good posts and Good luck fishing today. (I have to work :depressed: )

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I got up a little crabby this morning too, 5-cents, so I am going to be really frank with you. Here it is, straight out of the bottle:
Some people are offended by the tone of some posts. For example, when a group of people post constantly and seem to say:
-We catch all these fish 'cuz we have our secret sauce and you don't, nah, nah, nah......
-We fish everyday and catch all these fish cuz we don't have to work very much and you do, nah, nah, nah......
-We got these really cool sweatshirts to show off and you don't, nah, nah, nah......
-We take a whole bunch of people fishing to show them our incredible prowess at anchor-and-wait fishing with our secret carrot sweat cuz we are too cool nah, nah, nah........
Then, when the backlash starts, anybody who does not sing the praises of the mighty carrot crew is an "extreme disliker". People don't know exactly how to say that it looks like your egos are running the boat so they take little snips at you. When that happens they get pot shots from the whole carrot crew in a mass pile-on. Then they get nasty emails from the carrot bunch.
Then you post that you can't understand why everyone doesn't love vegetables.
Why do you suppose some people don't post with pictures of every fish they catch? Because they know that ifish is not about any one person or "team". They know that ifish is not about how many fish people catch. They know that constant bragging posts will yield negative feelings.
And they know that on any given day, on any given body of water, no matter how good they think they are, there is somebody out there who can, and will, flat give them a clinic.
I apologize for the length of this post. If it was more frank than necessary I am sorry for that, too. My intent is to bring you a different perspective on why ifish may not be the same experience for you that it was in the beginning.
Also for clarity, I do not necessarily share the feelings that I have expressed for you. I promise those feelings are out there. Now you know.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I have ben ragged on before for saying something out of context, but responded with my excuse and let it go. After all it is just a board and you only have to meet other people personally if you want. We can always go way back when you just started and read some of our own posts and asking questions and then read some when we have been here awhile and then now and you will see who always posts the same types of reports.....I have always liked David Johnsons reports as they have never changed(thanks)...just my thoughts since I have been here......

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
Right on Shane!
While I don't post many reports (since I don't fish / catch that often) I do what I can.
I agree with you on the petty bickering. Most of the time it's just a small group that seems to have a negative attitude towards others. Don't let them drag you down. They aren't worth it. You and the Carrot boys should be proud of the information you share on this board. I can say that I had one of my most successful salmon seasons because of the information I got from Ifish, And a whole lot of it was from you and the boys. ( If I haven't said it enough, Thank you! ) I look forward to hearing more report and fishing with you and the rest of the gang again soon.
To those of you who don't understand the carrot juice thing I feel bad for you. Get a clue! It's not all about what you apply to the hook as much as it is your attitude while the hook is in the water. Fishing is supposed to be fun. Not to see who can catch the most fish. I enjoy seeing other catch fish as much or more then catching one myself. I took several others out this year that hadn't caught a salmon. Many of them caught theirs on my rod. I went several days doing nothing but handing off the rod. It's a rush to see someone get their first one.
I will get off my soap box now.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
Nickle,
As you can see by my member number I have been on this board for a long time. One piece of advice I would give you is: Take all this with a grain of salt. Sometimes I like to have fun with the people that are being dweebs by antagonizing them but for the most part I ignore them.
One thing I have noticed is this board has it's own personality. It goes through mood swings. There are times when everyone is getting along and other times where people are downright crotchety. Don't let it get ya down my friend.
There was one point where one person had this board just about turned upside down, but I stuck it out because I considered the source and knew the value of what this site has to offer.
To answer your question. Yeah this board is fun for me. Not as educational as it used to be regarding tech, (maybe that's cause I now know everything But I usually don't miss a day of checking in ('cept weekends.)
Now go bonk some chrome and forget about it.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I think the reply from our own mod should speak to the masses. Good Job and well said.
For everyone else that thinks I am content or jealous or petty or any other word you can pull out of the dictionary then feel free to e-mail me and we can take care of it. Let's not turn this into "look at me, I'm the good guy" post because this whole thread stemmed from something I replied to on his sturgeon fishing report. There is a lot more too it than people just being negative and jealous.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
Shane, I think folks are pretty touchy after this latest deal with the big fish. Certainly there are a lot of folks that are jealous of you. I am. I wish I could fish as much as you do and it really ticks me off that I cannot. Jealous yes indeed. Can I catch as many fish as you, maybe...???? Well, just a little maybe.
I enjoy your pictures and the comedy of your gang. You guys have a lot of fun out there and that is the way it is suppose to be. Lots of folks on this web site do not catch fish and really want to learn how. Many folks have been willing to share information, gear, and even spots to fish. Just beware that what you share is noticed by 5000 other folks out there that are learning and then beating you to your favorite spot.
Chris I am jealous of you to brother. You're a fish slaying machine and I have seen ya in action. Im jealous of the time you spend on the water too. It kills me during late summer and early fall to read "we slayed 'em on the salt" or "river fishing is at it hottest". I'm green with envey as I am sure most folks on this site are.
Point is we have folks of all different levels of skill, background, beliefs, ethics here. It's easy to get bent out of shape about stuff. Don't believe me? Check out most threads over on the LIG board then you will see what I mean.
Oh yeah, one more thing. And this is a little dig for some of the carrot crew. Don't go to some other board and whine and snivel about this board. If you're gonna do that then just log off and have your previlages revoke here. It really does not good for anyone to do such a thing and you're taking shots at not just Jennie but all 5000 of us that read i-fish. What you guys are doing is a load of crap and is actually not healthy for either board. I know your feelings are hurt and rightly so. Mine would be too. Take some time off and come back when your ready. I think you will find most everyone will welcome you and continue to enjoy your follies and folklore.
Everyone takes this stuff so seriously and we really should not. It's just fishing boys and girls. Just fishing. Watch and learn.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I very much agree with many of the comments made here, not all, but many. I have been encouraging a life-long fishing partner to join the Ifish community. Why? Because, as I explained it to him, you will find good information about fishing in our region. Also, one does not have to put up with the typical streamside garbage that goes like this--"nice fish, where'd you get it?"--response--(grunt)"upriver"--(duh)---"what'd you catch it on?"--(grunt)"a hook". We all learn from doing, watching, listening, sharing, etc. And this board is extremely helpful. I am impressed with the overall friendliness of the people here. Yes, there are some who post things that would be better left unsaid. But, as I do at streamside, consider the source and learn what you can from them.
Also, we should all not forget that communication involves more then just the written word. We communicate so much by our body language, voice inflection, word pacing, volume, etc. All of that is lacking here. Therefore, we have just the written word to go by. Often, I think, we fail to communicate clearly to some, and at times some are offended. I can't say how many times I've read--"sorry, I didn't mean to offend".
I also believe that we should honor differing viewpoints. How boring would life be if we all agreed on everything, all the time. Again, consider the source, and learn what you can.
Because the communication here is largely impersonal, it is easy to get a bit rude (or a lot rude). There aren't many big risks here. It is a common situation in today's society where emails, etc. are becoming increasingly rude, or curt.
I believe a bit of good natured teasing is fun. It's hard, however, when you don't know the people, so the joke get's lost.
We are all people with varied opinions. Sometimes we are going to disagree, even vehemently. We need to all remember to be helpful rather than hurtful. We, as fishers, should remain true to our sport, and honor other fishers.
Finally, (sorry this is so long) a great big hooray for Jennie. She works hard to provide this great place where we can learn. I hope that she does not find this thread discouraging.
Anyway, my view--for what it's worth.
Mike

"Let's not let the 5 % rule the roost."
Or did you mean....Let's not let 5 Cent rule the roost."...???
Not to bust your chops 5 Cent...you seem like a nice guy who has all the time in the world to fish with your buddies so maybe I'm just jealous. I don't "post" much so I suppose I don't really have any clout but every time I get on this board all I see is Carrot this, Carrot that and a million "kudos" from everyone to you and your crew....Carrot, Carrot, Carrot. I have to agree with Crabbait.....the whole "Carrot" thing is played out.

5-Cents,
Tonight, kick back, sip a little brandy, and enjoy your great family. Don't think about ifish or those with the big ego's that are definately jealous that you have the time and skill to get out there and catch fish.
There is a lot of pettiness in the world. It even shows up on this board.
Enjoy your time fishing and keep those of us that are interested up to date on when and where you are getting them. Don't worry about what some of these fine ifishers are saying. There is always at least one, if not more, in every crowd.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I get a little tired of the team Carrot mania....BUT!!!! it is more than made up for by the pictures, the detailed reports, and the amount of information these guys give out to the world here on Ifish. Much more than most people on this board. I'd happily fish with any of them, I'm always willing to learn some tricks.
Keep up the reports, guys, you're doing great.

From where i sit (at my desk 5 days a week 10 hrs a day) I look forward to your reports, they're informative, funny and best of all usually have pics of dead seafood. I met you and your pals at the swap meet last year and you seem like a fun group, and you must be ok if you can put up with clownmouth drinking all your beer. Just keep doing what your doing and take the negative with a grain of salt (or anise oil if you prefer).

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
Yeah, Shane, Crabbait is right, so give up the recipe to the sauce, and all will be well!
Kidding--
This place is a community. Like any neighborhood, (and a large one at that) we have several different kinds of personalities. Tons of different view points, and we all have our own personal religious and political views.
Can we get along all of the time? NO WAY! Can we try? Yes. What is the motivation? We all have something in common.
There are people on the board that I decided at one point I didn't care for. However, after meeting them in person, I changed my tune. Online dynamics are weird, at best!
You just can't take posts at face value. You don't know how the poster is holding their jaw.
I have had days where I posted something totally innocent and really got slammed for it, because someone took it in the wrong way.
I have had experiences, where I have been super careful in reporting a fishing trip, (including editing pictures to change the view, and "poking a few holes in the story" (LOL) and have been accused of "giving away the location and now the whole dang thing is ruined."
Sound familiar? I'm sure of it. I can understand their protective ways, because I don't want certain areas over populated, too. I can also understand how things get twisted.
I think there is something about salmon season that brings out the best, and the worst in people.
Why is it, that the banks of the rivers are more littered during salmon season then steelhead?
I have had days where I was really bummed about ifish, and how it has changed from a little tight knit community, to, on certain days, lots of hurt feelings.
That's not what I want. That's not what you want.
So, let's all be a little more careful when we post things. Let's be a little more cautious of other people's privacy and respect their honey holes.
Let's try to do good here, at ifish. Be kind, respectful, and most of all... LET'S FISH MORE!
WHOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I want a group hug. RIGHT NOW.
"It isn't really what it appears to be."

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
This board is still a great place to have fun, ask questions, meet new friends. and talk to alot of great people. As with everything you have to take the good with the bad. The good far outwieghs the bad here. So yes its still fun. For me.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
Holy Cow 5-Cents,
You really did get up on the wrong side of the bed. I went back a re-read my post and didn't see you or carrots mentioned at all.
I didn't respond when Big-n-Bright or Zaq got whiney. They made the point all by themselves.
I have complimented your posts in the past, came to your defense, and am tickled that you guys are catching fish and having fun. I've had Bobby in my boat and have invited Zaq. Both are still welcome as far as I'm concerned.
Chris was the only one who gave a positive response to my thread. Thanks Chris.
Here's a tip, "It ain't all about you". (my post, this board, fishing, life)
You named me, but I really think you're out of line.
No hard feelings here. Lighten up, drink a beer, catch a fish, hug your kid.
I'm going back to work now.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
Jennie is right about things getting "lost" in Cyberspace. It's one of the big drawbacks of e-mail is how things get misconstrued.
However, after reading all these replies the underlying theme I get is if you don't agree with or like a post keep it to yourself?!? Huh? I'm not advocating bashing people but what's the point if it's always a Rah-Rah fest? Isn't this pages' survival based on thousands of people having OPEN discussions about fishing and life? Differences are part of life.
If all you say is "yes" what does "no" mean?
This is a public forum Right? With differences in opinions and views. So what's the big deal about speaking your mind as long as it's not hateful?

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
Im with Tanner. Everything with a grain of salt. You get 5000 fisherman together, interesting things are going to happen.
I met Tanner on this board about 4 years ago. He took me on my first drift trip.
RT taught me how to cure eggs.
JEFFHEAD taught me the ropes when I was a bankie on the Cowlitz.
BOE taught me how to bobber fish tidewater.
I took Ramstrong on the first floatilla and will always remember him as a fine fisherman.
I took Husker and his son down the Wilson last year and continue to fish and build a relationship with them.
Gun Rod Bow gave me a chrome fish to take home, when my boat was empty because I was an IFISH member.
Then there is Dave Johnson and Marty Peterson. Two of the finest people I ever met.
Long live IFISH.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
You said it, Jennie! We're just a big family, stumbling around on the bays and river banks, sometimes happy and close, sometimes unruly and contentious. But we're still a pretty neat family. Anybody that doesn't believe that, just swing by for the Christmas Party.
So....
Kudos, Crabbait, for your post. You nailed it.
Kudos, 5-Cents, for sharing your successes and letting us fish through you when we couldn't get out ourselves.
And Kudos, Jennie, for providing a place where we can share and learn and get to know each other. I, like many, have gained more than I will ever be able to give back - but I can try.
Tight lines to you all.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I agree with your comments in the fact that I don't really post many success pictures anymore because of the rash of comments that usually come with it. Mostly guys saying "that fish isn't 40 lbs, it's 35 by the length from your sleeve on one side to the other by goodness!" I'm tired of the jealousy and armchair quarterbacks also. For this I haven't shared my local fishing areas whatsoever. My time is mostly spent on the Salty Dogs and Hunting forums. Seems to be a little lower key on those pages and there isn't as much to hide on the big blue.
I hear what you're saying 5cents, I saw it coming when the story of the 75 lber was talked about long before you guys had a chance to give the real story. Amazing what people say on a rumor isn't it. The success of landing a monster (who gives a rat what it weighed) was overshadowed by bickering by people who were not there. Even to the point where they questioned what hook you were holding the fish up with??? I personally don't even give details anymore because people wouldn't believe how many fish we catch anyhow and I don't care to argue with them. Between 4 guys we've hooked over 200 chinook in the last two months on a FLY and you don't see me posting that one. Mostly because of the bs I'd hear about it. Keep your head up, there are some who would rather see a chrome picture just to admire it and care less what hole, or spot, or the story that has to come with it.
Not everyone is bad though, just some bad seeds in the bunch. It's too bad they seem to overshadow the good ones and give a bad taste in our mouths over things like your acomplishments on the river. Keep the pics coming, the story doesn't have to say anything and let them stew over their own conclusions.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
How about a big group hug at the Christmas party. We can all join hands and sing Kum By Ya (spelling?).
When I start a post or respond to a post I understand that I may be questioned, I may be given advice or I may be disagreed with. I know with each post I better have thick skin because I will be questioned or disageed with. Alot of time if someone calls me out it gives me a different way to look at things.
Bottom line is the fact when your using a keyboard to share your posts it comes with no emotion attached to it. By that I mean no facial expressions, voice flucuation etc. What is said in print may be understood totally different if I was standing in front of you and said verbaly the exact same thing.
At the end of the day this is an awsome site and I will continue to use it daily. Good people, good info and lots of different perspectives. Is this a great country or what?

Love the carrot pics and stories. Nothing wrong with guy's willing to share spots and open seats. They have a great attitude towrds fishing. Think about how often they go fishing. There success may have more to do with this rather than the carrot juice. I still want the recipe though PS, it's all a left wing conspiracy

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
I do addmit I have an Ifish addiction. Out of my obsession for fishing I come and go. But when the waters are rough and the white caps seem to come out on some post. I think it has alot to do with the time of year/fish season. When the fishing is hot the post seem more possitive. When they are down little tiff seem to start. My brother and I use to do it to. I think it's bordem. I do love fishing and love to see SOME of the back and fourth posting's. I fished with Chummer and Ripley yesterday and talked about this same subject. I think when we all get together at Christmas we need to really use that time to build relationships to network so to speak.
I work in a job as you all know that is one BIG LOCKERROOM day in day out and we are a family too.
We fight and are constantly picking on each other and if you've got soft skin you don't want my job. Like Ifish I choose to be here and If my skin can't take it I just turn it off. So send the pictures if you want Alot of us will thank you and if someone is nasty. Kick them to the curb. That's what moderators are for.
The 95% of us really have alot of POWER let's use it sometimes.

Re: Is this board fun for you anymore???????
Well, there are some valid points from Nickel and Crabbait. I think it is time to start fresh, regroup, retool, revamp whatever you want to call it. Lets start by rebuilding our trust with some good-will from the carrot clan as a good faith effort. Well lets see, ohh I don't know, for starters,,, how about the carrot recipe posted here on ifish. It seems the only way to even the playing field and make everyone happy is to post it on line with a detailed explanation of what it is made of and how you make it. Something like that would likely result in by-gones being by-gones and give us all the fresh start we need to continue on with our lives. Take a deep breath and I'll get my pen.... Okay ready when you are!

Don't stop posting.
There are a lot of people out there who get a lot of info and entertainment out of the "Carrot Crew".
I admit while I'm sitting at my desk avoiding work (like now), I think "Man, don't those guys ever work?". Then I remember my friend asking me the same thing earlier in the year....If you make fishing a proirity in your life then you WILL have time to do it.....
After fishing and hunting in this area all my life (I'm 44) there is still plenty to learn and share, keep it up
Keep on bonkin'
P.S. Sorry about the "spear gun" wise crack a couple weeks back
