Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
A very nice gentleman just dropped off a gorgeous young male lost springer at our home. (Oh goodee ) I am a softy, and I couldn't turn him away. He didn't know what to do with it, because he couldn't house it at all.
The dog is not hungry.
I called our "humane society" which consists of a local vet who has a dog with parvo, presently, and cannot take in any strays. She told us any dogs dropped off would immediately be euthanized.
This is an incredibly beautiful springer. Mostly white, with some liver. Looks pedigree, looks birdy, too. Not neutered, wearing a red collar.
Seems very even tempered and a little shaken. Not hungry.
It's a problem for us, because Bill's lab does not take well to new dogs at all. The dog is presently residing in our garage, and I'm heart sick for it.
If you know anything about this dog, please e mail me, immediately. It's dinner time. Things are hectic around here, but I'm going to make a sign and go take it down to the Logging bridge and put our phone number on it. Poor dog. :depressed:
Thanks,
Jen

Hey there Shelter Lady, Sooz is downsizing her herd of cats. How's about I drop off three of them. They are not hungry either and love barns!

Jennie, See if your vet has a micro chip reader and scan the dog if he does. It may have one with the owner's info. Always worth a try.
Hate to see a nice dog like that running loose but I know they do get out occasionaly. Hope you find the owner.

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
Yip. That's what we are doing, this morning.
What a grand pet this would make someone. He's the darn nicest dog. :depressed: He smells like he has been freshly bathed, even though his undersides are caked with mud, from running on the logging road.
He comes when called, looks up at me with love and question. "Where is my family?" :depressed:
Hard to believe that someone would dump a dog that is so nice. Tell me it isn't true.
Course of action: Take dog to vet this morning. Already put an ad on the local radio station. Set out signs "Found Springer"
If that doesn't work, then I will take him to the Portland Humane Society for adoption and location.
Going to call them, this morning to see if they have any reports of a lost lovely springer.

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
When I was a kid I had we had a 1/2 Golden Retriever 1/2 Irish Setter named "Snooky". She went everywhere with me. One time when I was trout fishing at the local creek. She waded down stream and hit an electric fence that was stretched across the water to prevent livestock from excaping up the creek.
My dog took off like she was on fire and ran up the road away from our house. We didn't see her for a year. Placed adds, put up a sign out front etc.
A year later somebody stopped at the house and ask if we had lost a dog. It was Snooky. Turns out they were driving up the road (almost a mile from the creek) and slowed for the dog. The dog started jumping up on the car. When they opened the door she jumped right in. A year later they were driving by and one of the kids said hey, didn't these folks here have a red dog.
Anywho... hard to tell how that dog got where he got. Keep looking for his owner Jennie!

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
I found a Springer last week at Clemens Park on the Alsea. Luckily it was wearing a collar with the owners name and address on it. It turned out the owners were out of town (Boston) and had someone looking after the dog. The neighbor said a family friend had picked up the dog to take it for a run with another dog. I guess the guy decided to take it fishing and lost track of it.
I believe that the influence of ifish should get this dog to its owner. I know it is kind of a pain now, but you will feel so good when you see that dog recognize someone familiar. Good luck Jennie!

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
Jenn, I currently have a little female B/W springer. I have hunt over them for years! If you run into any trouble with this critter please do not hesitate to contact me! I will find a home for it. There are current specific "rescues" that are breed particular. I will do a web search and see if I can find anybody avail for this dog. The Humane Soc. will also be able to place him in a good home, but would hate to see this dog go there. They are very people oriented!

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
If anyone, I repeat ANYONE can babysit this dog in a nice, warm home until we find a permanent one, please contact me. I simply can't keep it. It is lonely and sad, although not complaining, out in the garage.
If you can provide a loving warm home and some attention, please contact me.
I will not give up, however, on helping you to locate a home for him.

Jen, I might be able to house it for awahile. Sure would like to find the proper owner if possible, either give him his dog back or punch him in the nose. Contact me prior to the Humane Society.

OK, here are pictures of "Newdog."
We are going to keep him for 2 days, and just keep doors shut between he and Dee Dee, our unfriendly lab.
After that, I'd LOVE to adopt him out to an ifisher. What an excellent fishing companion this dog could be!
Great dog for a couch dog. Just likes to laze around and smile at you.

When I first looked at the title I thought uh huh, another sad attempt to trick i-fishers about springer season.
What a shame, that's a great looking dog too. Why the heck would someone do this?

If "newdog" is from Oceanside, someone must know where he belongs. Also, Kilchis tail looks to be wagging at supersonic speeds.

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
Come on, you guys... Someone has got to want Newdog, before I fall in love with him! (Too late!)
Anyhow, Kilchis adores him. I just can't stand keeping him cooped up in the garage. Can't get anything done. Every ten minutes I have to go hug and pet him.
I think I'll take a break, drive over to Oceanside and see if he gets excited at driving by someone's home. I don't know what else to do.
I've put out enough feelers, so that if the owner was missing him, they'd know! I mean, all across Oregon, they know! I've written to the rescue program, I've put up signs at every Post Office and Grocery Store. This is taking time! Why isn't the owner putting in time? I don't get it!!!

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
I have a pretty good heart when it comes to these things...
I am supposed to get a new Brittney this spring from Eric Linde because I want a fishing & hunting partner but I will call my wife and get permission to adopt this pooch ahead of taking it to the Humane Society...
Our family loves pets and this will be a welcome addition to provide companionship to my daughters pug...
Whatever you do Jenny...don't take him to the Humane Society...I can come get on Friday...
PM me if you want me to do this...

Nice conformation, good looking springer. Looks well cared for too - I'm sure someone is missing him.
Nice thing about one that size is he won't take up too much room on your bed  .

Hey Jennie maybe you should put up some local flyers that say something like loven dog up for adoption. Worth a shot. I would love to have that dog but theres not enough room to keep him at my house. I already have two dogs.

Dont give up on the owners trying to find him. He has clearly been well taken care of! His ears and body have been clipped. He is not suffering from starvation. Jenn.....dont take him to the Humane society! I will take him if no one else does.

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
I really, really want to share with you some good news!
The humane society is NOT what it used to be. I am so entirely impressed with their adoption rates, their clean facility, and their professionalism, and caring.
Their adoption rate is nearly 93 percent. The only dogs they are not able to adopt out, are usually bedridden type health problems, and aggresive dogs. I know how all of you feel, and I know that the humane society is not what I want, either. But, I am very thankful for our humane society and the improvements that they have made.
Go visit, sometime. You'll be impressed!
That said, I will keep the dog for two days, while we hold out for an owner. After that, I'll first take offers from ifishers, and then consider the humane society.
I spent all afternoon driving around Oceanside looking for signs that the dog knew he was home. No luck. Knocked on doors, etc. Now, I'm placing an ad on Petfinder.com. This is a full time job!
Meanwhile, "Newdog" is sleeping on David's bed.
I do love Newdog!

Maybe I missed it in an earlier post.
Did you have the dog scanned at the vet's for a microchip? That might tell you who the owner is.

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
I am exhausted. I've been on duty 24/7 with this dog. Playing close this door, and keep the dogs separate is making me crazy.
However, I do love this dog. I have had 5 offers for a home for this dog. Hurry up, people, cuz I'm fast falling in love.
Whomever takes this dog, must and I repeat MUST be open to the fact that his owner might still be looking. However, at this point, I would be rather suspicious of an owner, that hasn't called yet. He has been reported every where from Portland, to the internet, to grocery stores, Postal offices, and radio stations.
I doubt this dog would make a good hunter. He's just not hyper enough. He's a curl up and love dog. He's a smile at you warmly dog. He's a cuddle pup that needs someone to adore him.
He loves car rides, I'll tell you that, and he will leap into the back seat of an F 150 with a big smile on his face.
He gets along well with the cats, doesn't run after them, nor away from them. He didn't bother my chickens, loose in the yard.
He doesn't mess in the house.
He doesn't bark.
He doesn't jump up on you.
He's absolutely perfect, and I can't find anything wrong with him. He even comes when he is called.
He is afraid of electric garage doors, though!
With that, I am calling off the search tonight, and taking a hot bath.
Maybe I didn't get alot done for you ifishers, today, but I can say that I feel like I did a good job and that Newdog appreciates my efforts.
Night,
Jen

I have a springer mix and she is a great dog. She is very friendly and she has a bond with my family that runs deep. If you cant find a good home for him I will be more than happy to give him one provided he get's along with my dog "Maggie". We were going to purchase a springer sometime this year anyway.

Someone is missing that dog. Maybe run an ad in the lost and found of the oregonian. Have you inquired about or posted a flier in Oceanside regarding a found dog.

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
Newdog has a "Newhome!"
I can't say that it is my happiest day, as I've grown very attached to Newdog.
Ifish member "Pursuit" has adopted Newdog, and has promised a loving home. I think it will be. Newdog has a beach home, and a city home. What could be better?
He will stay with Purusuit unless the owners are found. I can't imagine, though, owners still being lost, with our intensive efforts to locate them.
His collar looks to have had tags, and they appear to have been removed, prior to dump. :depressed:
I cried a little, after he left. He just really started to cheer up and feel at home today. It won't be his best day, today, moving again, but he will adjust and it will be nice to have a caring, loving permanent home. I gotta smile. I gotta!
My elder cat, Jack, hasn't been around since Newdog came, and Kilchis was struggling with jealousy issues.
It's a happy ending, I'm sure. I just have to adjust.
Thanks for all of your help and offers of homes. Bill said, "Jennie! You could start an adoption service!" I dunna think so.
Too hard on my emotions!
Jen

Yes, Jack, it is Jack, and we are getting a new "Young Thang" kitty companion for it. I think we'll name it Sooz.

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
If you look close at the pic of jen with the dog you can see it in both of their eyes....hair color also is close,,,,whats that old thing about dogs looking like the owner....Jen I have 2,5 spingers (ones half springer/half lab) they are the best pets once they get a little older (too much energy as puppies) OH My that dog is already a little older....what A find its just like a new spoon plucked off a tree branch...good luck with the new fishing partner....no more cat on your back....DJ

Re: Upper Kilchis Fisher or hunter? Found springer
I am just heartbroken.
"Newdog" who is now at a home where they have named him "Max" is in need of a home, again.
Turns out that Max is a very loving dog, who wishes to be with someone most of the time.
The present owners can not seem to leave him at all. If they put him in a small fence, he tries to dig out.
Newdog needs a home where people are with him most the time, like with an older person, or a family that stays home on a farm, etc.
He would love to follow someone around, while working outside, and in.
Here are words from their letter, which broke my heart. I can understand, but still, poor puppy. He needs a home, and is losing trust, I'm certain, as he goes from house, to house.
Anyone out there that can provide a good loving home?
This dog probably is not a hunter. He's a lover, a companion, and a lap dog/boat dog.
Things the new owner said about Max:
"I feel so sorry for him, he is such a love, but I think with the fact he
was left, he feels I will do the same. Can't leave him in the yard, he digs out, he won't let me go in the bathroom without him,
we have only left him alone twice, we have even taken him on showings,
but I can't do this always, he has actually become MORE attached instead
of less, I was hoping that he was just a dog, that would enjoy just
being here, but he wants constant contact, can't seem to trust that I
will return in a few minutes. The person that takes him either needs a big farm, ranch, etc where he
can just be along side of them or an old lady that never leaves. He
never has messed in the house, he eats fine, just needs the aspirin for
his hips, he is an angel, I hate that fact I am writing this.
I can get a hold of the springer rescue if you don't have a person on a
list, I know someone said they would take him if he didn't work out with
me, please let me know, and don't hate me, I am as shocked I am writing
this as you are."
I feel so sorry for them, and for Newdog/Max.
These are the facts about this dog. Now you know what his weakness is, and I have to tell you, there are no more. He simply wants a lot of attention. Don't we all?
Please, if you can provide this kind of home for Newdog, write to me, and I will forward it on.
Thanks,
:depressed:
Jen
