Eagle Creek report
Bring your own rock!!!! I hiked down into the canyon on Sunday and had a very difficult time finding some water to fish. When I did finally find some good water to myself two guys with little kids decided that they really needed to fish above and below me. Kids throwing rocks, the guys were cutting tree limbs to get more casting room. All right in front of the best drift. No ethics whatsoever. In past years I have hiked in there and only seen one or two people. Yesterday I ran into about twenty!!! Hooked one fish. Very slow over all. Saw two fish out of all of those people. Even the lower river was packed with people. Next weekend I will stick to the crowds in the drift boat. It seems that more and more people are learning of previously unpopular fishing holes. I wonder why?? Hopefully the weather and river levels will hold and I am heading to the coast in the driftboat this weekend.

Re: Eagle Creek report
I hate that! When you have your own hole and you think not many people even know about this hole and then next time you go to fish its lined up with people.

Re: Eagle Creek report
News Flash: When you park at a hatchery to walk to a fishing hole -
1) It isnt a secret.
2) People show up all the time.
3) Lots of people show up on weekends.
4) A lot of them are doughballs.

Re: Eagle Creek report
I walked the canyon Sunday as well, showed up at 7 in the am and was the first car there to my surprise! I fished down to the first log jam hole and got first water in all the holes, thats why there wasnt many fish, when I walked out only ran into 2 guys one right at the first crossing and one below the first crossing 5 cars in the parking lot which is really not very many people for this time of year. Some of the fish were bright but the majority had quite a bit of color. The area has changed a bit since this last storm, alot of downed trees.

Re: Eagle Creek report
UG-
You said a mouthful. If I can't get out during the week, I go somewhere I know I won't see more than a couple folks, and even that's hard to do now, regardless of the quality of the water.

Re: Eagle Creek report
I think an artical was posted in fishing and hunting news about this fishery in the latest edition. That always seams to bring more people out of the woodwork.

Re: Eagle Creek report
Kevin King,
Let me clear a few things up.
First of all, We showed up around 2:30pm. Second of all, my son just turned two years old and I carry him in a backpack every weekend to go fishing. He can't even throw a rock more than two feet. As for the other two(age 15 and 7), they never threw anything in the water. They understand how to fish and throwing rocks into the water will prevent catching.
As for your spot, I have taken my son down to your "secret spot" over ten times since his birth and have been fishing Eagle for more than 11 years. There was never anything thrown into the water that was past where I was standing.
As for the tree, the Alder vines had bent over from our recent snow storm and were barely hanging over the edge of the creek (no more than 4 to 6 inches of water with sand and tree branches covering the river bank). I have cut this same patch of Alder vines for the last 3 years.
As for me having "no ethics whatsoever" Did I or my friend ever fish within 15 yards of you? Did we ever fish the same run as you? Did we ever cross lines? What about the two gentelmen that were there just before me? Did they **** you off also?
It is funny that you did not say anything when I was there. Do you recall me asking you a question and all you did was turn your head? Talk about ethics
Chill out dude, you do not own the river.
As for our day of fishing, the water temp was around 38 degrees. We brought 1 fish home and hooked two. Dissapointing for this time of year on EC, but I love to get out with my son and enjoy the scenery of the canyon. To bad I loged on to ifish and see this post.

Calm down, Eagle creek is not a river. It is a creek.

Re: Eagle Creek report
You gotta expect to see people on eagle creek. If someone was able to carry thier kid down to one of the holes to share the experience thats great. I would have given them room. A lone fisherman can always move around.
I have had some good conversations on that creek with people I ran into. I have also ran into people that acted like I had no right to be fishing there.
Kids do throw rocks. But it sounds to me like a family out having a day of fun. At least this fisherman was doing something wholesome with his sons.
It doesn't have to always be combat fishing. If it's not fun then what's the point?

Re: Eagle Creek report
Drunk cowboy,
calm down man. Was it you that was fishing next to me in eagle creek?? I did say something to the guy that was fishing directly below me. I was wearing a red sweatshirt with a columbia sportswear label on the front. I didnt see any kids in the two year old range in a backpack. I didnt say that it was MY RIVER. I rarely fish up there and probably wont bother to go back on a weekend. I will leave that for the combat fisherman. By the way, I was fishing the lower end of the canyon.

Re: Eagle Creek report
Kevin King,
I was below you with my son down very low in the canyon. He had a como stocking hat and jacket on. You were fishing the main slot, just above the hole. There were two or three fish in the slot that you kept you fishing. You hooked one fish just before we arrived.
About me calming down, I was just surprized to see a nasty post about myself. I am nothing close to a "doughball", and I understand how to fish. I would never do anything that would jeopardize another fisherman's opportunity to catch fish.
You are right about there being a lot of people. There has been a large increase in fishermen the last 4 or 5 years. This is no reason to stay away, Most fishermen down in the canyon are always willing to help out and give pointers. I am one of these gentlemen.
I will keep my eyes out for you in the waters around town. If I see you I will be sure not to throw a rock in your direction
Tight lines
