Default Salmon & Steelhead eggs

Do steelhead usually only hit on steelhead eggs. And salmon on salmon eggs. Or is there a difference on what they bite on?

Never noticed any difference. They will hit any type of eggs as long as they are cured and stored correctly. Quality in ---Quality out. Personal preference now may be something else quite different.

No difference.

I like steelhead for steelhead and salmon for salmon because of the size of the eggs. The steelhead eggs are so much smaller and I use small clusters for steelies.

What Dave said - unless your fishing really really low, gin clear, small water - then the larger eggs work well cause you can put a cluster of only 2-3 indivigual eggs on a single small hook. Im told this can work very well.

Yep Like Dave said. I have never seen a difference in what they will hit( if they eggs are cure right they will fish) my favorite is to use my Spring Chinook eggs for steelhead. When a Springer egg gets about the same size as a steelhead egg I put those up for steelhead. They are very tight ( hold up well to casting) and are just the right size. The only time I use larger chinook eggs is when there are lots of chinooks around spawning sometimes I think they work a little better then.

I agree with the experts above, however I like to use Coho eggs too.
