Default Winchester Techniques

My wife and I are considering a trip to the bay and are looking for some information about the fishing techniques used there. We have been trolling the Siuslaw with herring for the past two weeks and thought it might be fun to hit Winchester Bay. We have heard god things about the area and hope we might have some luck while there.

I know there are many individuals on this fine site that have information so please respond. I am very excited to get my wife into a nice nook real soon. Any information is appreciated.

When the CG lets boats out there, the best area is just inside the tip of the south jetty...on an incoming tide. I've done well on whole herring fished 4'- 5' off the bottom which is about 25'- 30' deep there...I don't really troll but use just enough motor to keep in position in the back eddy when there is one...hold the rod and lift & drop every so often...that chinook in my avatar pic was caught at the tip of the Umpqua's south jetty.
